Review: Focal Listen Professional Headphones

0

I’m used to seeing Focal headphones at many booths during trade shows like NAMM, but I didn’t have any personal experience with them until now.

I also know a lot of people swear by their monitors so I was definitely interested in giving the Listen Professional model a try.

They are closed back, over the ear headphones, with a hard case and two detachable cables. One spiral, the other straight with a built in mic.

They also have soft ear pieces, not the imitation leather or plastic that you find on some models…I’m a fan of soft ear pieces.

Quick Specs

  • Rated Impedance: 32Ω
  • Frequency Range : 5 Hz ~ 22 kHz
  • Sensitivity : 122 dB at 1kHz
  • Price: $299.99

So how do they sound?

Overall I dig the sound, nice representation across the frequency range, you can really get a nice clear high end, as well as deep bass reproduction.

They don’t seem too hyped up, but the sound is certainly “close” if that makes sense. I knew I was wearing headphones, but I didn’t feel any fatigue or strain while using them.

They fit comfortably, not tightly squeezing my head which is a plus. The ear pieces I felt needed to be stretched out a bit at first for my taste (I really just don’t like them touching my ears lol)

I tried them on various devices at various outputs and they held up well, a little harshness when pushed super loud but I rarely listen a crazy high volume and just do that for testing purposes.

So what’s the bottom line?

These are definitely a step up from most low to mid range headphones and will fit nicely in many pro studio or listening environments.

As with any monitor or headphone, it’s all about your taste and what you expect, as well as how much time you spend getting used to their character.

I give the Focal Listen Professional 4 out of 5 subs, they offer great build quality, comfort, and versatile frequency response.

If I had to make a request I would have liked to have a bit wider stereo imaging so that they felt less like listening to headphones after a while.

I’m definitely interested to see what else Focal has going on in their monitor and headphone range as their reputation for quality is there for a reason.

Glad to have a chance to check these out!
