Hey what’s up fam!
I’m back with another review from Orange Tree Samples.
Yeah…I dig his stuff, so what!
This time it’s a new flute library called Passion Flute (not passion fruit…I keep wanting to say that though)
Let’s check it out
So what is Passion Flute?
It is a new Kontakt library dedicated to the Jazz/Rock flute sound.
So not so much a world flute library that is so common (which I also love too)
This one is for more contemporary/general use…which is is good in my opinion
It runs in the full version of Kontakt, and like other Orange Tree Samples libraries, it has some super ninja scripting so you can just focus on playing.
Quick Specs
- content: 1.15Gb of samples
- format: Kontakt 4 or 5 (full version required)
- price: $99 until 12-31-11 (regular price $129)
How does it sound?
Man….I dig it!
It sounds really organic, real, authentic, etc.
There’s even some breath samples that kick in when switching notes after holding too long.
Like his other libraries, you don’t have to focus on keyswitching to get the dynamics and expressive playing you seek.
Just play it! The script automatically interperets your playing and triggers the intended expression or articulation.
This makes it really easy to use, and to actually “play” to get the sound you want!
Each person will play it differently for sure, which is awesome…..and the sound itself is just pristine.
I also like how you can mix the 5 mics, and use insert fx on each mic individually.
What’s the bottom line?
I’ve said it before, but I’m gonna say it again.
I REALLY like what Greg is doing over at Orange Tree Samples.
Not only is he capturing some really good musicians, but the scripting and programming of the instruments really make them a joy to use.
Passion Flute is no exception to this standard, it’s a great sounding instrument with tons of expression yet simple to control
I give Passion Flute 4.5 out of 5 subs, I’m really impressed first with the sound, I love a great jazzy flute. But second the control you have over the instrument in such a simple interface is top notch.
I’m also digging the fact that the libraries are not super expensive, nor do they take up multiple 10’s of 100’s of gigabytes on the HD.
So they not only sound great, and are full of expression….but they load quick!
Man, just get over there and check it out:Β http://www.orangetreesamples.com/passion-flute
And take a listen to the other stuff while you’re there.
leave a comment below, let me know what you think.
i can feel this here. the realism is tremendous. without the review, i prolly wouldve not necessarily cared too much to check it out as i wouldnt have expected it to be much more than a great sample of multiple flutes without all the ways of the keys dictatin the way the instrument is interpreted as bein played. the addition of the mics and fx makes this sounds hella cool. im not so nice with the keyboardin skills and this seems like it would make me sound like a pro in recordin. haha. also, i would imagine there will many other specified instruments to come in the same fashion. if it werent for other things i need first, i would definitely add this to my library. perhaps sometime in the near future i will pick this up. thanks mayne. im diggin the reviews.
@oooJASONooo, yeah fam, this is why I like to show stuff. This one would have been easy to miss, and even the demos on the site do not tell the whole story other than it sounds good.
But I’m loving his instruments, I think they are really good sounding, realistic, and easy to use. You can just play and really get used to how it reacts to your playing π
Thanks for the feedback fam and thanks for the support
SJ,This is a beautiful vst. I like the clear sounds that can be produce especially for the jazz genre. Another great video from
“S&G”.com.
@Baddboy2000, I’m really glad yall liking them man, I really dig Orange Tree libraries bro, really great sounding instruments. Must haves in my opinion.
Passion fruit! Haha!
So, why didn’t this make 5 subs??? It sounds and looks like a 5/5 in your video review and it seems to be better than some of the 5 subs libraries you’ve reviewed that I’ve watched/listened to.
But this is a really nice review. This library sounds incredibly good. The interface even looks really nice.
@BeatSmith, passion fruit indeed π
It’s not a 5 out of 5 imo, but it’s close for sure.
That’s 5 of 5 doc, I don’t care what ya say. Unless you got something from Best Service topping them joints, I got 5 on it.
@Mean Gene, everyone has their own opinion, 4.5 is not bad…not sure where the rub is. To me 5/5 means no room for improvement at all, there’s a couple things here I’d like to see improved, nothing to do with the sound though, which is dope π
I haven’t seen a jazz type flute like this anywhere, it’s really dope.
Good look with this one. Not a bad investment if you want to get your Bobbie Humphries on! I like how there’s a graphic representation of the breath intensity (from what I can tell through the video anyway).
From my limited experience learning the flute, I can say this is surprisingly expressive.
Now if they come out w/ a library featuring the sax family of instruments I might not be so quick to get mine out of the shop for re-conditioning.
@Jamari, i was thinkin the same thing bout them havin a sax and some stringed instrument of some kind
@oooJASONooo, indeed man π A sax would be awesome!
@oooJASONooo, if they can figure out a way to script staccato, slurs and tonguing techniques (which involve breath and reed pressure control) it will be one crazy instrument library to play.
@Jamari, I’m sure if anyone can…it’s Orange Tree π
What can I say…they’ve made a fan outta me! LOL
@Jamari, yeah man, I am constantly impressed by his libraries. They are very deep yet so simple to use, at the end of the day they just sound amazing man. I’m definitely looking forward to more instruments from him. I would love to have some sax stuff for sure π
@saintjoe, true indeed, I’m going to have to budget aside some funds for one of their libraries. This puts me in the mind of another company, Sonic Couture, with their in depth scripting. I purchased their Abstrakt Bass before they discontinued it. I find it a very welcomed addition to the sonic addiction, I hope they come out with another version of it.
@Jamari, no doubt bro…I didn’t get a chance to grab that one when it went on sale, wish I did lol
I’ve been searchin for a flute without the need of a breath controller and great dynamic control using key pressure.
Orange Tree Samples new kontakt stuff is serious biz and very detailed. This is a universal quality flute, and works in many areas well, live or studio. (jazz, rock, neo-soul, soul, hip hop, R&B, solo’s, movie scores, soundtracks, ethnic etc.) I was just peepin out their Upright Bass yesterday.
Much Thanks and Props Peeps !!!!
@Funky Drummer Dewey Dew, I agree fam, really great stuff here. I’m really diggin the quality and ease of use in their libraries.
Nice stuff, good for those funky-jazz moments.
@Sergiu, yes indeed π
yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!! damn joey you got crack on your hands with this one…orangetree has some nicccccccceee!!!!! stuff , after listening to this i went on their site and listened to some other instrument samples, man they got some of the most realistics libraries i’ve ever heard, how did i miss their product? ..ohhh well better late than never thanks to you bruh..nice look i agree with the 4.5 rating nothnig wrong with the sound itself just some minor other things and their products don’t break your pocket
@Eezzyj, yeah fam lol, I’m loving their junk bro. They even got a dope music box. Ever since I had my fantom I been in love with music box samples, but never found a good one outside the fantom…till Orange Tree π Really dope libraries man.
