Tronsonic Rhodetron Seventy Three EP library review

32

Hey what’s good fam, back with another review for ya!

Today I’m checking out a smaller developer, which I love to do, because they usually have some pretty cool and unique stuff!

The developer is Tronsonic, and the product is Rhodetron.

Let’s see what’s up!

What is Rhodetron Seventy Three?

It’s a vintage EP recorded through 60’s tube preamps then recorded to old worn tape.

The whole idea behind Tronsonic is to capture that vintage, tube, tape saturated sound.

No eq, no compression and no effects are used during the recording stage.

He then takes these samples, throws them in Kontakt (or exs) and uses them as the basis of sound design for the particular library.

Quick Specs

  • content: 50mb samples, 20 patches per format
  • format: exs24 and kontakt
  • price: £5.99 (just under $10)

How does it sound?

I really dig the character of this library. It has a raw, sometimes harsh sound, due to the way he designed the patches.

But there are also some floating, ethereal patches as well.

The original dry samples are great, have some nice scratchiness to them, yet still feel full and warm.

Perfect for throwing your own fx and processing on them.

You can really hear the tube/tape sound, it’s not super present like an effect, but it’s more about the overall tone and feel of the samples.

I really dig it, as it brings a totally different character to my vast collection of EP libraries….I’m an ep fanatic as you know

So what’s the bottom line?

I dig it, I say for the price it’s a no-brainer.

Of course I’d love to see some customized kontakt interface sexiness going on, if only to bring the controls of some of the kontakt fx he used when designing patches to the forefront.

I give this library 4 out of 5 subs, I really like the tone and character of the samples, as well as the diversity of the patches he designed.

Like I said, you have smooth and silky as well as rough and distorted all in the same collection.

For the price of a pizza, you can add a pretty unique tone to your keyboard collection.

I say it’s a winner, go check it out for yourself: http://www.tronsonic.com/#/rhodetron73/4552167232

  1. I’m lovin’ the sound and it’s for BOTH EXS and Kontakt? I’m copping this for my beat mixtape. I thought I was done making tracks, but then I heard this. Thanks for reviewing this gem, man!

BTW, you’re getting a shout-out on my liner notes on the mixtape!

  2. Good look once again, plus they offer a nice student discount! I can’t wait to try this out with some Sonic Couture scripts not to mention routing through some of Maschine’s fx being it’s lacking an interface for just such a thing.
