Hey what’s good fam, back with another review for ya!
Today I’m checking out a smaller developer, which I love to do, because they usually have some pretty cool and unique stuff!
The developer is Tronsonic, and the product is Rhodetron.
Let’s see what’s up!
What is Rhodetron Seventy Three?
It’s a vintage EP recorded through 60’s tube preamps then recorded to old worn tape.
The whole idea behind Tronsonic is to capture that vintage, tube, tape saturated sound.
No eq, no compression and no effects are used during the recording stage.
He then takes these samples, throws them in Kontakt (or exs) and uses them as the basis of sound design for the particular library.
Quick Specs
- content: 50mb samples, 20 patches per format
- format: exs24 and kontakt
- price: £5.99 (just under $10)
How does it sound?
I really dig the character of this library. It has a raw, sometimes harsh sound, due to the way he designed the patches.
But there are also some floating, ethereal patches as well.
The original dry samples are great, have some nice scratchiness to them, yet still feel full and warm.
Perfect for throwing your own fx and processing on them.
You can really hear the tube/tape sound, it’s not super present like an effect, but it’s more about the overall tone and feel of the samples.
I really dig it, as it brings a totally different character to my vast collection of EP libraries….I’m an ep fanatic as you know
So what’s the bottom line?
I dig it, I say for the price it’s a no-brainer.
Of course I’d love to see some customized kontakt interface sexiness going on, if only to bring the controls of some of the kontakt fx he used when designing patches to the forefront.
I give this library 4 out of 5 subs, I really like the tone and character of the samples, as well as the diversity of the patches he designed.
Like I said, you have smooth and silky as well as rough and distorted all in the same collection.
For the price of a pizza, you can add a pretty unique tone to your keyboard collection.
I say it’s a winner, go check it out for yourself: http://www.tronsonic.com/#/rhodetron73/4552167232
leave me a comment and let me know what ya think.
This sounds sweet Joe good lookin out fam.
@Hydra3420, yes indeed fam, thanks for the comment!
I love how this sounds. You’re right. No brainer. For what it is trying to be, it nails it. Ten bucks? I can already hear a ton of crap I’d do with this.
@QueMusiQ, yes indeed man! Plus you can mess with the FX, add your own, etc. It’s a must have in my opinion.
I’m lovin’ the sound and it’s for BOTH EXS and Kontakt? I’m copping this for my beat mixtape. I thought I was done making tracks, but then I heard this. Thanks for reviewing this gem, man!
BTW, you’re getting a shout-out on my liner notes on the mixtape!
@DCeeMusik, hahahaha, I feel you man, I dig the tone of this joint for sure, really creative sound.
@saintjoe, These sounds are awesome. Just bought the mover the weekend and made some serious bangers with these sounds. Don’t sleep on these sounds!
@DCeeMusik, cool man I ‘m glad you liked them
This is definitely worth the price.I love the tone of the samples taken.
It cost about 2 fish sandwiches which is tasty too. LoL!!
Good find SJ!
@FISHER the Sandwich, yeah man! 2 fish sammiches! LOL, it’s a great library for sure.
Joe” good things don’t always have to be expensive,
vintage keys man, how nice!!
@dp, yes indeed man, I just try to show what’s good, regardless of the price. Sometimes it’s high, sometimes it’s a steal 🙂
nice one dawg, I still prefer my neo soul keys but it sucks up a lot of RAM so this would be a cool little alternative.
@friDAY, for sure, neo soul keys is the illest, but then again, it’s a totally different sound as well. I have a few different EP libraries, each with their own character.
Yo! Saint! Indeed this is a still brother.
@dj jambone, word fam, no questions asked! lol
Good look once again, plus they offer a nice student discount! I can’t wait to try this out with some Sonic Couture scripts not to mention routing through some of Maschine’s fx being it’s lacking an interface for just such a thing.
@jamari, yes man, most definitely!
Dang man – St. J givin away all my secrets man.
@TheS, hahahahahaha lol
I’m liking this sound library. I will definitely pick it up. Thanks for finding this one. Oh and I like the little melody you came up with @ 3:44 in the video.
@Kloo, cool man, thanks for watching!
Ya I got $10. Joe you are the never ending deal finder gear picker my friend!
@Thomas Greco, hahahaha, I try man, I try!
Damn his whole site has cool kontakt patches! A ton of great instrument sounds!
@Thomas Greco, yes indeed man, I heard he is working on a new synth library as well 🙂
Hey Jeo!
Loving the sounds from this little joint. Hope I can chuck the sounds into flakes!
Thanks for the heads up my man…….
@everythingbutthegirl, no doubt fam, I dig it!
SJ: The sounds that can be created with this seems endless. I like what was demonstrated in your video. Thank you for giving us a look at the “Seventy Three EP library”.
@Baddboy2000, No doubt fam, it’s a really cool library!
oh man – had to get it – i don’t need another rhodes, but for $10…definitely worth it
very fun to play….
it’s good to see inexpensive stuff reviewed………i can only get something big like once or twice a year…next is SAM….prob in the summer….unless i get a get a gig that could really use it then i’ll cut it from the paycheck….
@richard, yeah bro, I try to mix it up and just show what I like, sometimes I find the really bargin deals like this and I have to show em! lol, love it.
