Hey what’s good!
Yep, I’m back with Big Fish Friday…I know I’ve missed a few, but you know I didn’t forget!
Today I’m checking out a cinematic/sound design type library for Kontakt called “Zodiac”
Let’s check it out!
So what is Zodiac?
The entire concept behind Zodiac is aimed at composers, media/tv producers, game, and film music creators.
The library is made up of natural sounds, found sounds, natural instruments, and other crazy noises made by banging, scraping, hitting, and overall abusing any type of sound source they got their hands on.
So think atomspheres, pads, stingers, percussion, metallic hits, scrapes, and things of that nature and you’re on the right track.
The whole thing runs in the free Kontakt player so you don’t need the full version of Kontakt to enjoy it.
Quick Specs
- content: 150 patches, 50 multis, 4.6GB (compressed)
- format: Kontakt Player 5, Kontakt 5
- price: $199.95

How does it sound?
I find the overall sound of this library to lean a bit towards the darker, more “erie” side of things.
Not that it’s a bad thing, I just find the overall tone to be darker or even a little warm in sound.
Of course you can quickly adjust the sound with the interface and I found myself tweaking the treble a bit for my tastes just to brighten things up a bit.
I enjoy how they took acoustic or natural instruments and turned them into pads and atmospheres, I also like the found sound types of percussion and drum kits.
There’s plenty of pipes, pans, and other metallic things that were lovingly “harmed” or hit, scraped and otherwise abused in the creation of this library.
I think it achieves the sound it sets out to give, but if you’re looking for light airy pads and bright synth type soundscapes this isn’t it, it’s definitely more on the cold, dark side of things.
So what’s the bottom line?
I enjoy these types of sounds for sure, and if you’re looking for something to set a certain mood this just may be the library for you.
I give Zodiac 4 out of 5 subs, it’s a great sounding library with a simple interface for quickly tweaking the sounds to your own preference.
Sure this isn’t an “all in one” type of library, it’s definitely geared towards a specific end of the audio spectrum, but that’s what makes it useful.
It focuses on a particular type of sound and gives you exactly that.

JK! Thanks for the review – glad you dug Zodiac. π
Thanks for watching fam. cool stuff!
Dude, your demo song sounds like a video game soundtrack like Zelda or stuff like that. I can’t stop listening it. You said you’re no composer but, damn man, you can do very cool stuff.
All the best from France.
Thanks for watching man!
