So what is EP73 Deconstructed?
This is a new dedicated ep library for Kontakt 5 and Kontakt 5 player aimed to capture the true sound of a stage 73 EP.
But once that was done, not only is it about having a really great recorded EP, but also recording it in various ways and playing styles to make it useful for sound design and sound fx purposes.
It’s like a realistic/authentic EP and a “prepared” EP library mushed together into a lovely audio combo plate.
It’s really like two instruments in one.

How does it sound?
Man listen…Soniccouture creates some awesome sounding libraries, period.
Off top, as a straight EP library this thing sounds amazing! I love how they capture the various sounds that go into giving an EP its character, all the way down to the noise and key release.
They also give you quick access to useful FX to further tweak your sound.
However, where they set themselves apart is how creatively they approach their libraries. The various playing styles of bowed, plucked, mallets, and sfx just add another level of depth and usability.
Oh but do not forget, in addition to the main instruments you get tons of presets. One folder full of “normal” EP presets, and another dedicated to sound design and fx.
That right there takes it to a whole different category, and the sound design presets are really awesome in their own right!
So what’s the bottom line?
Stuff like this is like finding an extra prize in the cereal box as a kid.
For someone like me that is an EP fanatic but also loves weird sound design type instruments, it’s a double dip of sonic sweetness!
I give EP73 Deconstructed 5 out of 5 subs, this thing is so well recorded and the sounds are just plain inspirational.
These guys are creative, they make me smile every time I play with one of their libraries.

this is the most realistic one I’ve heard,,,,love the sound design patches….best scripting of any company….

been listening to a lot of real rhodes demos lately on youtube, and honestly hard to tell the difference with the some of these patches you were playing.
@J, it sounds awesome no doubt, but playing a real rhodes is a different experience, not just the sound, but the feel, etc. I’m still looking for a real one myself lol. But yes, this sounds amazing.
@saintjoe, oh no doubt, I’m looking into getting a real EP of some kind too. Real is definitely better than a vst, was just saying this is one of the more realistic emulations I’ve heard lately.
If you’re looking for a real EP thats cheaper and more portable than a rhodes, look into a Hohner Pianet T. Thats what I think I’m going to end up getting eventually. I live in a 3rd floor apartment, so moving in a real rhodes is out of the question. The Pianet T sounds really good though, has that 70s sound/vibe and is a real EP, but only about the size weight of a Motif. (only downside is no sustain pedal ability)
@J, I’m partial to the rhodes sound…possibly a wurli, but really want rhodes, maybe even both lol
Yeah Joe, you already know. This library sounds good. Glad you reviewed it. You get the “Piano Blue” yet? If so are you going to review it too? This company makes excellent instruments.

@iRonicLee, No doubt, this joint is dope man. I bought piano in blue, it’s ok, I wasn’t blown away by it but it’s a decent piano.
I’d like to try the piano in blue…very cool concept…it was also sampled to tape…
@richard, yeah, it’s decent, I got it when it first came out on sale, I was expecting a bit more from it, but it’s got a really nice tone to it though. You could probably make it sing lol
I’d like to give it a try – I’m real tough on piano libraries though because i grew up on an acoustic instrument…
but that piano they sampled was actually on craigslist about a year ago….
it really is a legendary piano…. im not too into jazz, but i do love ‘kind of blue’- amazing album…bill evans was a sick piano player….at some point i’ll grab it and test it out….
@richard, yeah man…I’m sure you’d do it justice…I need to pick up some more skills lol. Nah, it’s cool, like I said, has a nice sound to it, but nothing that blew me away.

@courtney, its dope man, it’s up there, NSK still has a different feel/sound, but this one is such a unique library you can’t go wrong with either. NSK has a warmer/rounder sound to my ears, but this one sounds so great also.
@saintjoe, I bought this one. I have the Rhodetron, and this is a step up in terms of sampling, and sound design. NSK has a lovely sound, but I figured this gives more bang for the buck.
Do you notify these companies when you do a review? I’ve no doubt you impact on their sales in a very positive way!

Good review once again. I’m so tempted to pull the trigger, only if I could play the keys like I could a sax *lol* I’m looking at some self study programs (i.e. gospel musician’s beginner’s bundle, etc..) any recommendations would be appreciated.
@jamari, I feel you brotha lol. I recommend GM as well as Hear and Play, both have some nice stuff. I’m using GM personally myself but have used a bunch of the free stuff from Hear and Play before back in the day, so I can vouch for both.
