Hey what’s good fam!
Back with another cool library to review for you, this one is from Soniccouture and Imogen Heap.
If you like cool and unique sounds, then let’s get into it!
So what is Imogen Heap Box of Tricks?
It is a Kontakt library that is the result of a collaboration between Imogen Heap and Soniccouture.
It is a selection of her instruments, sampled in detail, and given custom scripting to achieve the exact workflow she desired.
You not only get access to the instruments, but custom fx, sequencing, and generative beat features that work the way she designed.
The product itself was even beta tested within her own live shows and studio sessions to ensure the proper experience.
Oh yeah, they even record some IR samples of various spaces in her home to give you the full experience of the natural sound in her setup.
Quick Specs
- content: 13 instruments, 170 snapshots, 13GB (compressed)
- format: Kontakt 5, Kontakt Player 5, NKS
- price: $179

How does it sound?
I really dig the sound of this library and the main reason is everything is build from instruments and acoustic sources.
Though I love a good synth, I’m much more partial to acoustic sounds and actual instruments, so anytime that foundation is used as the basis for sound design I get excited.
I was certainly not disappointed here, there’s such an organic an experimental vibe to the sounds, even a bit ambient and ethereal in some cases.
The interface allows you to quickly adapt, tweak and change the sounds, and the inclusion of the impulse responses really lets you change the sound of the instruments quickly by putting them in different spaces.
The recordings are high quality and the instruments themselves are just pure fun to play. Everything has such a realistic tone from the mallet instruments, to the cello, the whirly-tubes…yes…I said whirly-tubes!
So what’s the bottom line?
I love that Soniccouture continues to step out and do their own thing, the things that inspire them, and it shows in this product.
Not only does it sound great, but it’s a joy to use thanks to the amazingly designed interface.
I give Box of Tricks 4.5 out of 5 subs, the mixture of creative sound and quality user interaction makes it a fun and unique instrument to work with.
If you love organic acoustic sound design, or just high quality recordings of instruments you may not usually reach for, I definitely suggest checking this out.
Not to mention the fact that it comes in NKS format, so it’s ready to browse directly from NI Maschine or Komplete Kontrol…which is an added bonus in my opinion.
Go on over and learn more about the creation of the product, and make sure you take the time to watch the videos with Imogen Heap!

thanks for the review SaintJoe! Another quality release from Soniccouture, and this one covers a lot of ground despite being somewhat “niche”, but very clever and inspiring bank for sure…
They definitely have some cool stuff man, been a fan for a long time. Thanks for checking it out!
Very good demo-which gave me an excellent insight into the sounds available-No flashy showing of of keyboard skills-but an opportunity to check out the instruments capabilities. Thanks
Paul
Thanks for watching and commenting! That’s exactly what I go for in my videos.
do any American shops sell it? that way I can download it cheaper than in England!!!
I believe it’s just on their website
Hi loved your review the box of tricks set…I’m after a little advice on keyboard controllers. I use my old Korg M1 at the moment with Logic Pro X but obviously I can’t control any plugins using that set up….I’m a bit of a one handed player but like the option of a full keyboard..can you recommend anything low..mid and high budget. thank you.
Thanks for watching. As for controllers, really just depends on what you want in a controller, the NI keyboards are nice, nektar panorama is nice, and novation always makes good keyboards.
