Motu MachFive 3 Telematic electric guitar review

16

Yo what’s good fam

Back with another review from MachFive 3, this time I’m checking out Telematic, which is the dedicated electric guitar instrument from the MachFive 3 factory library

We already checked out the Mark 79 EP, so now I’m showing you the guitar.

I figured since MachFive 3 is so big, it would be easier to review it in parts ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s peep it!

What is the Telematic instrument?

It’s one of the new dedicated scripted instruments in MachFive 3, this one is dedicated to the electric guitar.

It’s based on a Fender Telecaster and has some pretty cool controls in it.

Not only do you get the solo instrument, you also can play chords very easily, as well as use the build in amps/cabinets and fx pedals.

It even has a build in step sequencer.

Quick Specs

  • size: around 8GB (Telecaster only, full MachFive 3 library is 45GB)
  • format: MachFive 3
  • standard price for MachFive 3:ย ย $459 standard, $179 upgrade from MachFive 2
  • crossgrade price for MachFive 3:ย $279 competitive crossgrade (need proof of registration for ableton live, emulator x2, any version of kontakt, eastwest play, gigastudio, quantum leap goliath, halion, reason, logic, structure, or independence)

How does it sound?

It has a really great sound and the fx are very useable.

What I really dig is how it sounds when you start playing chords and strumming with it.

I love that it will automatically fix your chords to fit a guitar (unless you’re in keyboard mode)

so that it sound more like a guitar chord and not a keyboard trying to be a guitar chord.

The way you can choose between neck, bridge, or a mixture of both really lets you get the sound you’re after without much work

The recording of the guitar itself has a really rich sound

What’s the bottom line?

Just like with the Mark 79, I feel that Telematic would do well as it’s own instrument. It really feels like it’s own separate product, as do many of the new scripted instruments in MachFive 3

Lucky for customers, it’s part of the factory library, so that makes it even more of a great instrument.

Where this stands out is the actual scripting done that allows you to really perform with the guitar and not just play it.

I give Telematic 4.5 out of 5 subs, really a great electric guitar instrument that could stand on it’s own yet it’s part of the factory content, great stuff!

You can get some very convincing results rather fast, and the guitar mode really feels like learning an instrument because you have to figure out the best way to use both hands but it’s not difficult to do like many keyswitch setups.

This setup feels more natural and allows you to just have fun and play it.

  1. SJ,Thanks for the introduction to this instrument.Motu MachFive seem to have created an instrument that may not be too difficult to use,(which is great). I may have to look into this one deeper. Another great video review from “S&G.com”.

    • @xavier.p, it can open Kontakt files yes, is that basically what it is? No…it doesn’t open scripted Kontakt files like the George Duke or other with all the extra interface programming. It only opens the basic nki format files.

    • @sky, This is MachFive3, currently these sounds do not work in BPM. It needs to be updated, and even then, I’m not sure if it will be able to handle all the scripting of the new sounds.

Good review once again SJ. I bought mach5 3 last week and can’t wait till they email me my authorization code.
I went the crossgrade way for $279.00 to save some loot.
Yeah, the scripting possibilities is what sold me. Hopefully it plays well with my BPM.

    • @FISHER the Sandwich, yeah man, you will love MachFive 3, it’s really dope. As for BPM, you can’t load the new scripted libraries into it yet…I don’t know if they will do an update for BPM or what, but I do not think it does the scripting like MachFive.

Either way, you will still get great use out of it, I love it.

  3. What up Joe, thanks for the review bro. I really like using the guitar mode because I can use 2 fingers to get different variations of chords and it sounds great. I think Acoustic Samples, MOTU & UVI Sounds did a very good job on the whole MachFive library.

    • @Madbull Studios, yep I agree, I actually like guitar mode myself, it’s more “fun” to play. I’m not a guitarist like you, but it’s really easy to pick it up in Telematic…I’m sure it’s not exactly like a guitar, but I don’t have to “think” about it like other guitar libraries…I just play.
