Big Fish Friday Breakbeat Jazz samples

31

It’s Friday, and I know you hungry for some fish!

I had a house full last week so I had to skip big fish friday, but I’m back with something dope for ya

If you like that chopped up, jazzy, breakbeat style of music, then you’ll be interested in this review

of Breakbeat Jazz.

What is Breakbeat Jazz?

Breakbeat Jazz is a raw collection of jazzy turntable style breakbeats and vinyl sweetness.

Laid back jazzy rhodes, flutes, guitars, bass and random musical chords all molten together into a sweet beatย casserole.

Oh yeah, and just in case you may wonder if it’s really capturing the breakbeat/lounge hip hop vibe…

it’s made by eQuipped Music.

Yeah, the same ones behind Smoker’s Delight and Smoker’s Relight Deux!

You know it’s gonna sound sweet!

Quick Specs

  • Contents: 4gb of drums, rhodes, bass, guitars, percussions, and fx
  • Format: REX, WAV, RMX
  • Price: $99 for the dvd or $49 for each of the two download pak versions.

How does it sound?

It sounds raw and jazzy.

The drums are thick and crusty, the samples have a vinyl/dusty feel to them and the samples are ready to be sliced.

There aren’t many long loops in this one, the music loops folder provides a nice collection of samples to chop.

The rest of the sounds are mostly bits and pieces, perfect for molding together those spontaneous moments of pure funk!

The keys and bass notes are very useful, when used together or spread out across your keys/pads to form the basis of your track.

Well record, this one definitely has some imperfections in some of the samples, but it’s a good imperfection, which goes in line perfectly with the turntable them.

The sounds don’t force you to go in a certain direction, but simply give you the building blocks for your next musical skyscraper.

So what’s the bottom line?

I loved this library, I thought I would miss the longer loops more but I actually loved the chords and short hits quite a bit, felt exactly like the type of small snippets you’d grab off of a vinyl and build around.

I give this library a 4.5 out of 5 subs, very solid and the drums are sick! ย The kicks, hats, and snares come in two versions…lo fi and phat!

I also like the fact that they break it down into two parts and allow you to pay a little less to download half of the library at a time, good move.

So check it out and let me know what you think. Breakbeat Jazz at Big Fish Audio

  1. …I usually look for cheaper sample packages but I think I need to stop being thrifty(cheap) and spend the ends for this jazz set. What I heard is sounds that I could use on my own production. Thanks Saint Joe!

    • I feel ya D! Nothing wrong with being thrifty, but you def have to keep an open mind, there is some gold out there in the higher price brackets. It would be cool if they were lower, but you usually get a lot more content in the higher priced libraries.

  2. Whatup Joe,

I think I will pick that up. Its sounds dope and I should be able to use those sounds in my music.

Hey man I just ordered SONiVOX Eighty-Eight VST today from Sweetwater.com have you had a chance to mess around with that yet?

Actually I brought a few things today from SONiVOX…I got some of the DVIs from them such as the Slap Bass, Guild Guitar, & Acoustic Bass. I was surprised at how good those DVIs sounded. In that last track I sent you “Ridin’ Dirty” I went back and changed the Slap Bass from my Motif for the Slap Bass from Sonivox (Sounds very realistic).
If you want to hear how it sounds now go to:

Also yesterday I brought the Roland Fantom X library for Kontakt from TyphoonSounds. Very dope sounds (especially the drums, brass, piano, etc).
If you are looking for authentic sounding Roalnd Fantom sounds I would recommend that library.

Keep up the dope reviews man.

    • I heard eighty-eight at namm, it’s amazing!

I already had them typhoon sounds because I missed a few sounds after I sold my fantom lol, I got that and the motif bank, good stuff. I honestly don’t use it much with all the other kontakt libraries I got, but it’s good to have.

  3. This pak definitely has some nice sounds, the demo song on the site is chill but I’d have to say your review exposes more of the product’s potential. A definite “gonna buy it” item along w/the Mirror Ball dvd which is on sale.
Umm-hmm….man do I have some ideas brewing in my head *(insert sinister grin while rubbing hands together or perhaps a PaiMei/White Lotus beard stroke)

  4. Really like what you put together in the demonstration, nice sounds and as usual you know how to hook ’em up. I got a joint called Foundation that they made back when they were e-lab, and a lot of these drums are in that one too, different patterns tho. Not a bad thing at all, like their Smokers series these are sounds you would use a lot. I’ll probably grab this, but I’m glad I’ve got some of those drums in the meantime.

    • Yeah man, their drums usually overlap a lil bit from what I can see but each library has a slight edge in processing/eq to be just a tad different.

Their libraries have some of the longest “use factor” I’ve come across from a brand…they never get old.

  8. I really like jazzy hip-hop, and I’ve seen this video now countless times. The thought that I can’t afford it yet drives me mad. This is definitely on my wish list.
By the way: Do the sample DVD’s have regions like movies have?
