Darkscore II patches for NI MASSIVE reviewed

Hey back with another patch library for ya, another one for NI MASSIVE

Today I’m checking out a collection from a composer over at theunfinished.co.uk

This library is called Darkscore II…..know I haven’t tried the first one

Let’s check it out!

What is Darkscore II?

This is a custom patch library for MASSIVE that is geared towards cinematic and movie style ambient sounds.

Not just ambient but more hybrid, evolving and raw atmospheric sounds and fx

Not just the typical synths and leads, there are custom macros mapped for all the presets and and many of the sounds are more on the “sound design” side than they are just straight up synth sounds.

Sounds like my type of party!

How does it sound?

Of course you have some of the raw leads and basses that MASSIVE is known for, well done with macro assignments that let you tweak quickly.

But where this one stands out is the more atmospheric, hybrid, evolving textures.

Personally I don’t think of these types of sounds when I think of MASSIVE so they really impressed me there.

Everything has the right amount of fx/tweakability for the style they are going after, so you can tell the creator actually uses these types of sounds in his compositions.

Being able to go from harsh and thick to smooth and evolving in the same library really gives it some diversity.

What’s the bottom line?

If you haven’t noticed, I’m quite interested in finding ways to enhance the products you may already have as well lately…so checking out presets is a nice way to quickly give new life to any synthesizer.

That said, these sounds are quick inspiring, mostly because I feel they push MASSIVE into some territory that is usually less explored in patch libraries for this synth.

I give Darkscore II 4.5 out of 5 subs, it’s really fun to play and brings a whole different texture to the MASSIVE library

I don’t know what Darkscore I sounds like…but I’m definitely looking forward to version III, I hope to see even more deeply evolving textures and atmospheric sounds.

I have certain synths I think about when I want those types of sounds, now thanks to this set of patches…MASSIVE is in that group too
