UVI Gypsy Jazzy library review

19

Yo what’s good fam, I’m back with another review for ya from UVI.

Yall know I dig the sound of the UVI libraries, this one is a little different in that it’s not just an instrument.

It’s also a bunch of loops and construction kits as well.

Let’s check it out

What is Gypsy Jazzy?

It’s a whole library dedicated to Gypsy style Jazz, Swing, House, and Electronic music

It is a new UVI soundbank and the first released to work with the new UVI Workstation 2 and it’s new scripting engine.

You get a huge collection of construction kits that capture the gypsy jazz style, perfect for fusing into your own electronic and jazzy productions.

You also get full, multisampled instruments, ready to play in your favorite daw or recording software.

In addition to this, you also get what is called UVIVirtualBand presets, which puts a whole gypsy jazz band on the keyboard, ready to play and follow the key/chords in your own songs.

Quick Specs

  • content: 4GB
  • format: UVI Workstation
  • price: $199.00

How does it sound?

As usual, the recordings are well done. And while the instruments themselves sound nice, in particular I think the drums and the vocals are the standouts here.

I also enjoyed the Acoustic Bass samples as well. However the vocals really shined as well recorded phrases with enough variety and fx to really be useful.

Similarly, I like the drums, in particular the drum kits as they are all brush kits but they included some hybrid kits which make use of electronic bass drums in addition to the brushed kick, makes for a punchy yet organic sounding kick.

With the scripting engine, immediate control over your instruments is brought right to the front with most of them allowing you to turn on delay, reverb, and vinyl fx to give the sound of a true gypsy jazz record

What’s the bottom line?

This is a unique library, maybe even a little quirky, if you aren’t specifically looking for the type of sounds in the library then it may not be for you. However, if you ARE looking for a gypsy jazz styled library, I can’t think of another place to look.

I like that it’s not just construction kits, the fact that you get actual instruments you can play, in the style that matches the construction kits makes it very flexible.

Running in the UVI Workstation 2, changing the tempo to match your songs as well as adding other fx and enhancemnts is super easy.

I give this library 4 out of 5 subs, it’s a solid library, with enough variety in the vocals and other loops and sounds to keep anyone busy.

These samples would definitely add some variety to any electronic or house track, and even downtempo and urban stlyles could pull from this library.

I see this as really two libraries, a collection of stylized multi sample instruments, and a huge collection of construction kits, loops, and one-shot samples, all meshed together into one huge library.

Also make sure you download the latest version of UVI Workstation 2, as I’m definitely looking forward to more scripted libraries that bring control of the instrument to the forefront.

let me know what you think fam!

  1. Wooow, I saw this on the Bigfishaudio.com website but I just thought it was some construction kits didn’t think they where also instruments. The UviBand chords stuff looks really powerful, would have liked to see more.
Thanks for the preview Joe, peace!

    • @Sergiu, yeah, there’s a lot here. The chord instruments all pretty much work the same, just with different instruments, that’s why I didn’t show them all, it’s quite a bit lol. But it has a good sound, and fun to use as well. I can’t wait to checkout their new Emulaiton II library!

  3. What up bro…this is not a bad library to have. I heard a few sounds that were interesting and some that I would be inspired to use. Some sounds I heard I’m not sure if I would ever use for my type of music. I’m on the fence with this one but I appreciate the review. Excellent as always.

    • @Madbull Studios, yeah fam, it’s very specialized, if you’re looking for these sounds, it’s great, if not, probably not something you’d pick up randomly. But I like to checkout different things of course lol.

  4. Hi saintjoe

Thank you very much for all yours videos : you take time to demo the softs and it is very appreciated, thanks to you, we can have a real idea about the distinct features of every product you are presenting.

If possible, I would like to ask you some questions concerning UVI Gipsy Jazzy :
-Did you have the opportunity to compare with Bigfishaudio Gipsy Cafe (KLI serie) ? If yes, what would be the main differences and in favour of which ?
-Is UVI Gipsy Jazzy rather “flexible” : concerning for example the loops of guitar solos or the voices, can we easily make them suit perfectly with the tempo and chords of our personal compositions ?

Thanks very much for your attention

  5. Love your reviews – very helpful, hands-on approach! Can you tell if this Gypsy Jazzy program have legato articulations for the violin instrument? I am thinking of getting this program vs. QL Gypsy Virtual Instrument which sounds amazing but does not include a bass (?!). Thanks!

    • Hey Susan,

Thanks for the comment, glad you like the videos! It’s been a long time since I messed with this library, I don’t specifically remember it having legato patches though, I could be wrong and they may be included in the KS patch but I’d suggest contacting UVI directly to make sure as they don’t list it in their tech specs or manual and I no longer have this library installed.
