Sample Logic Cyclone synth library review

11

Hey what’s up fam!

Back with another new instrument from the fellas over at Sample Logic

This one is called Cyclone and it’s a new synth instrument library for Kontakt

Let’s get into it!

So what is Cyclone?

cycloneinterfaceThis is a new Kontakt synth library that combines sampling with synthesize and a ton of tweakability.

Sample Logic is known for their sample based instruments, which are awesome no doubt.

They took that expertise and they added actual synthesis to the mix in the form of actual waveforms that you can add to/layer with the different sample based instruments to give you a totally unique sound.

You also have a very sexy interface that gives you instant control over the sound and effects as well as the arp and master tone control.

As usual, the sounds are all organized into neat category folders for quick browsing and auditioning.

Quick Specs

How does it sound?

Reel to Reel Tape RecorderSample Logic is usually well known for their epic, cutting edge, cinematic sound style, this library is no exception.

Sure it’s not big string style cinematic, but it definitely has some grit, edge, and futuristic qualities to it.

I like how you can quickly change the feel and character of any of the sounds simply by going into the wave menu and changing the layered synth wave, adjusting the tone, pitch, and detune of it, or even removing it all together.

The flexibility of the main arp as well as the arp for the fx allows you to add some very nice movement and fluidity to the sounds, or tweak what’s already there.

I also really dig how they did the “triggers” the playable fx, they actually give you multiple sets of “triggers” instead of one set of static fx. So you can for example pull up the “industrial” collection and then turn around and pull up a “lo fi” collection of triggers on a different instrument. This concept really provides lots of options in terms of sound manipulation.

Overall I think it really has an edgy aggresive sound, though you can find a few softer ambient instruments throughout the library.

Also, some of the drum kits really hit hard and others just have a very unique character to them that definitely fits in with the library itself.

So what’s the bottom line?

You may be thinking…not another synth, but the control and ability to tweak the sounds in this library really make it a fun instrument to work with.

4andhalfsubsI give Cyclone 4.5 out of 5 subs, it definitely does have a nice sound, with plenty of control and a super sexy interface.

For my tastes, I probably loved the instrument stack and one note glory multis the most, I definitely really enjoyed some of the more airy/ambient instruments as I think their sampling styles really allow for some nice organic pads and music bed type sounds.

But overall this is a fun library, getting into the arps, lfos, triggers, and fx really gives you a chance to change the sounds tremendously as well as being able to add in some actual synth waveforms to give it even more of an edge.
