Review: ORACLE- Modern Sound Design Library for Kontakt

6

Hey what’s up fam!

Got a new review for you, this one is a Kontakt library by Casey Edwards called ORACLE.

I’ve had this one for a while so I’m glad to finally be able to share it with you.

Not only is it a cool library, but you know I’m a sucker for the smaller/indie developers.

Let’s check it!

So what is ORACLE?

oracle_boxIt is described as a hybrid sample library, aimed at modern scoring and sound design.

What I’ve found is it pretty much covers all types of sound from scoring and sound design to straight up contemporary music production.

You get a custom Kontakt interface for quick tweaking and adjusting, while the instruments themselves are fast loading, which is always a plus.

Even though the interface is pretty deep in terms of what you can do, it’s very easy and intuitive, something I always love to see!

Quick Specs

How does it sound?

Reel to Reel Tape RecorderI wasn’t sure what to expect with words like modern and hybrid, but the library definitely delivers both.

What I’ve notices is there’s all types of sources used, from found sounds, to synths, acoustic instruments, spaces, and impacts.

This allows you to pull up anything from an evolving atmosphere to a synth lead for your next Pop track.

The sounds are well designed, the pads and atmospheres are smooth, the percussion and impacts are punchy, and the fx are all over the place, in a good way.

You can get trashy, or you can get clean, from ugly noises to smooth and beautiful ambiences, all are covered quite well in this library.

So what’s the bottom line?

I always find it cool to come across new products, from companies or designers I’ve never used before.

Casey’s approach to this library is much appreciated, because while it’s aimed at sound design, the fact he specified “modern” sound design means it’s pretty much a cross over between scoring elements and general production tools.

This makes it useful for all types of genres and productions.

4subsI give ORACLE 4 out of 5 subs, it sounds great, has plenty of variety and a powerful yet intuitive interface.

Definitely give this one a try if you’re looking for something a little more edgy and diverse yet still tame enough to work in all types of production styles.

  1. Once again a very nice overview of this product. You show all the possibilities, and more interesting, you do know to find interesting stuff for us sound designers! Keep up the good work 😉

    • What it seems like and what it is can be quite different. Of course things will sound similar if they sample similar vintage/digital synthesizers, that doesn’t mean it was taken from another library though.
