Mellow Jazz Funk Rhodes Samples

Today we checkin out some smooth sounds from SoundsToSample.com

In case you didn’t know, this site is run by the creators of Sample Magic…yeah, them.

Checkin out some rhodes samples they sent over for review, in a Jazz/Funk style.

David knows I like smooth, downtempo, chilled out sounds….so I had to check this one on his suggestion.

What is Mellow Jazz/Funk Elements?

In short, it’s a collection of rhode samples.

What I first noticed about this collection is the variety of styles in there.

Usually when you get a rhodes library it’s all pretty much along the same groove.

Not this one, you get blues, jazz, funk, chords, arpeggios, and other random stuff.

Rhodes are like salt, everyone should have some in the house.

Quick Specs

  • Content: 430 acidized wav files
  • Format: Wav
  • Price: $39.95

So how do they sound?

The first thing I noticed about the sound is that it seems they were all recorded with the mic pretty close to the cabinet. ย That can be good or bad depending on what you want.

But it gives it a full bodied sound, lots of harmonics and such.

Like I said before, the variety is a strong point of the collection, because you can find tons of different styles and they all sound authentic.

The playing is very groove oriented, especially when you get into some of the jazz loops, a bunch of nice riffs and stuff ready to be chopped.

The inclusion of single chords is also welcome, with 3 and 4 note varieties.

All in all, it’s got a good authentic rhodes sound, though some may find it a little too “full” for their tastes.

So what’s the bottom line on this library?

It’s got a great sound, great production and plenty of variety to be useful in various situations.

If you like the “fullness” of a rhodes sounds, as opposed to a more “controlled” feel, then you’ll love the sounds in here.

The production provides enough variation in the loops and riffs to allow for some great chops to be extracted.

I give this library a 4 out of 5 subs, solid library at a nice price.

  1. Yo! I gotta a lot of those Rhodes samples in my arsenal! They’re soooo dope!
They can stretch to fit any bpm’s or you can chop it up!

I love the “warm fuzzy” sound that only Rhodes can deliver, and this particular set has lots of variety!Definitely worth pickin’ up!

  3. For $40 this’ll be good to have in the toolbox, especially for those of us that aren’t true keyboard players and don’t feel like fumbling around w/a plug-in such as Lounge Lizard and the like. Granted the trade off may be the expressiveness and modulations but that why there’s Guitar Rig ๐Ÿ˜‰
It’s worth missing a date night at the movies…then again considering the quality time to satisfaction ratio most good sample packs are *lmao*

Even got it for practically free (probably because I just brought a new Danelectro Guitar).

I didn’t even know about this one yet.
    Thanks for keeping me informed.

  5. wut it do, been a minute, been meanin to get to these reviews. I’m glad I caught this one tho. Love keyboards so this fits right in with a lot of the things I been doin lately. Just got my hands on an M-audio Sputnik so the song and recording game is gettin stepped up, now to build up the sound library and this wouldn’t be a bad place to start. Keep it up

  6. Damn man those joints are sick but I don’t think I’d pay $500 – $800 dollars for a chair. At the most I’d pay is probably $250. I think at those prices I’m mainly paying for the brand and not the chair ๐Ÿ™‚

I found a nice high-back chair on amazon that’s around $200 hopefully that will last me for a couple of years…maybe….I tend to go through chairs on the regular.

Thanks for letting me know about the Herman Miller chairs…you never know if I get frustrated enough with the cheap stuff I may acquire one down the road but at a used price lol.

  7. I think I could live with the upfront sound of these recordings. I find it easier to scale back a sound or shave some brightness off rather than the other way around. I got a lot of Rhodes already (and I fumble with the Lounge Lizard lol),
but if I didn’t $40 is a great deal on these.

SaintJoe, if you still want to sell the 4000, and could wait about a month, I’d give you something comparable to the ebay buy it now prices. It’s the pre-Numark
    white one right?

    • I feel ya man, they def usable.

My 4k is the pre numark original joint from Mars music before they closed lol, the white one.

I haven’t put it on eBay or anything yet so I may still have it in a month we’ll see, just hit me up when you ready and I’ll let ya know if I still got it.
