JamUp XT Pro Multi FX App Review with 1972 Fender Rhodes EP

6

Yo what’s good fam!

Back with a new review for you, this time it’s an app that I’ve been using with my Rhodes to add some character and different effects.

It’s JamUp XT Pro from Positive Grid

Let’s check it out?

So what is JamUp XT Pro?

multi-effectsIt’s an iOS app dedicated to being a multi fx suite for guitar and bass players, however you know me, I use it for my own purposes.

Most of the same effects and amps used on guitars or bass work well for synths, electric pianos, and other instruments.

So that’s what I use it for of course ๐Ÿ™‚

It has tons of different amp models out of the box based on many classic devices and also has a store where you can purchase more.

In addition to that it has an looper/sampler, a “jam mode” for playing along with songs, and even an 8-track song recorder (2 by default, in app purchase for access to all 8 tracks).

For me I mainly focus on the fx side of things but for guitarist or anyone that wants a cool way to capture ideas the recording features are pretty cool too.

How does it sound?

Reel to Reel Tape RecorderI’m always looking for ways to add a different character to my Rhodes without buying or trying a bunch of different hardware, this app gives me the ability to try out different styles and brands of effects to see the types that I may actually wish to purchase.

At the same time, it sounds good enough that I feel confident using it for my EP effects on it’s own. I love how quickly you can change the amps, each with their own sound, then throw on delay, modulation, reverb, etc, all with a simple graphical interface.

One of the best parts about the app is the tone, it doesn’t sound “cheap” in any way, but actually changes the feel of my EP very quickly.

You can get smooth subtle tones or harsh crazy distortion, or really anything in between.

And with the posibility of purchasing more expansions through their store you can get access to a bunch of classic fx and amps very quickly.

No matter if you’re looking for bass tones, metal fx, or classic vintage devices, you can find it and use it within seconds.

Overall I really dig the sound, and the fact that it integrates smoothly with their BIAS amp application allows you to really get in and tweak the amp sounds as much as you wish, from the preamps to the tube types and more.

So what’s the bottom line?

If you want a quick way to turn your iPad or iOS device into a multi fx unit then you definitely should give this one a try.

I’ve tried multiple fx apps and I find myself coming back to this one over and over.

The layout is very easy to navigate, the devices sound great, and it’s so flexible in how you wish to route things, so you can come up with your very own sound.

4andhalfsubsI give JamUp XT Pro 4.5 out of 5 subs, it’s a great sounding app that’s fun to play and flexible in it’s capabilities.

I don’t have room to try and setup a bunch of outboard fx, stomp boxes, and different amps, though I plan to get a few for my EP and synths, being able to quickly try different tones in such a small footprint is really useful for me.

I’ve already purchased a few of the expansions and being able to hear some vintage devices that I’ve searched eBay for instantly in my setup allows me to dial in sounds that I wouldn’t be able to do otherwise.

I’m not saying I still don’t want some key hardware pieces, but this app has definitely allowed me to not stress over them as much as I can quickly pull up so many different devices to scultp the sound I hear in my head with the flick up a finger.

Don’t forget to look at some of their other apps as they are doing some really cool stuff over there.

  1. That app does sound sweet for sure. I’ve got an iPad 2 which I need to make more use of.
Please explain how do you connect to the Rhodes? Are you really playing through that little Fender amp? How do you connect the iPad to the computer or Maschine Studio?
