Icon Digital CubeMi 5 MIDI interface review

4

Hey what’s good fam!

Today I’m back with another piece of gear from Icon Digital

I previously reviewed their AIO 6 audio interface/controller

Today I’m looking at something a bit more simple, a MIDI interface.

So what is the CubeMi 5?

Cube Mi5-RearThis is basically a 5 in/5 out MIDI interface.

For those with a lot of external MIDI gear, or older MIDI controllers without usb connections, this is something super useful.

I’ve used multiple forms of MIDI interfaces such as this over the years so I was eager to check this one out.

There isn’t much in the way of features with an interface like this, you just want it to work, so that’s what I focused on .

Quick Specs

So what’s the bottom line?

This is a straight forward product that doesn’t need much in the way of features or configuration, and that’s what you want in a MIDI interface like this.

4subsI give the CubeMi 5 MIDI interface 4 out of 5 subs, it’s a straight forward interface that’s stable and rock solid when transmitting data.

Seriously, if you’re looking at something like this, you know what you need, and most of these types of interface are usually 4 or 8, I’ve never seen one that has 5 ports and I find it very useful for the price.

With how stable this is, I wouldn’t mind  a nice rackmount 10 port version (hint hint…)

Check it out on their site: https://www.icondigitalusa.com/content/cubemi-5-midi-interface

Also have a look around at their other controllers and interfaces, there’s a lot of useful items over there

  1. I would thoroughly discourage anyone from buying one of these. I bought 2 of them to use with Cubase, and they don’t work when you plug both in. If you install the driver that comes with them, then when you try and plug them in causes a blue screen of death periodically. ICON support were dismissive and basically told me that it’s my problem, and if I don’t like it, don’t use the devices.

Biggest waste of money, and I’ve had to rebuild my machine as I couldn’t get the drivers off that were causing the BSOD. So it ended up costing a lot more than just the devices.
