Heavyocity AEON Collection review

27

So if you don’t know by now, Heavyocity recently released a new product…you know I had to check it out.

So let’s just get right into it!

What is AEON?

AEON_MelodicThis a a huge, brand new library that covers synths, ethnic, orchestral, cinematic, sound design, and rhythmic elements.

Unlike DAMAGE which is specific to percussive impacts and kits, or Evolve which was more geared towards sound design and atmospheric soundscapes, AEON covers a much larger range of sounds, so much so, that it’s broken up into two separate collections.

There is a melodic collection, where you get access to all the playable instruments, synths, hits, and fx.

Then there is a rhythmic collection which gives you a large pool of looped rhythmic phrases and riffs that you can manipulate, twist, tweak, andย re-purpose.

Today I’m looking at the collection as a whole, which includes both the melodic and rhythmic components.

Quick Specs

So how does it sound?

Reel to Reel Tape RecorderMan, it’s no secret I’m a huge fan of Heavyocity, and I was eager to see what they were going to do with this product.

The sound quality is on point, but what I really loved about this library is the diversity, they give you traditional organic instruments that sound good, then they give you the cinematic sound design stuff we love from them…which also sounds good.

Then, as if that weren’t enough, they give you great sound synths and rhythmic melodic phrases.

I also love what you can do with the fx very quickly, they sound good, but more importantly they work well within the context of the instrument.

So no matter if you’re looking for a nice ambient piano or a raw, multi layered hit, you can definitely find it in AEON.

So what’s the bottom line?

Well, if you haven’t watched the video by now I suggest you do, and I’m sure you’ll see what I see.

5subsI give the AEON collection 5 out of 5 subs, it’s a very well put together product with a gorgeous interface and inspiring sound to match.

I really like the fact that they allow you to get either collection you wish, so that if you’re more in need of some rhythmic elements, you can just get that without getting all the melodic parts, or maybe it’s the other way around for you and you need more melodic instruments than rhythmic phrases…go for it!

I was also surprised by the rhythmic library, I expected more sounds and loops along the lines of DAMAGE, but that’s not what it is. Sure there are some percussive elements in there but it’s really a lot of melodic riffs, phrases, and sequence loops ready to be mangled and manipulated.

Cool stuff!

Of course you should go over to their website and checkout all of their video tutorials and demos as they have quite a few up, let them know I sent ya!ย http://www.heavyocity.com/product/aeon-collection/

  1. Ahhh…. I was waiting for this (your review).
    Got Damage. Got Evolve.
    Been tempted for this.
    5 Subs, eh?
Time to start scrounging under the couch pillows for loose change.
    Peace,

  2. Thanks for your great review again!

Very nice collection indeed. The only thing is I get the impression it sounds a bit compressed/saturated. What do you think about that?

  3. SJ: Thanks for giving us a peep at the Heavyocity AEON Collection. I read about these products, but never had an inside look. Your review was spot on… I would rate this @ 4.0/5.0. Only because it may only appeal to limited genre producers.

    • word, yeah that’s the point, it’s definitely a specialized library, but quality wise it’s awsome, I try not to rate on “mass appeal” but mainly focus on quality and usefulness for whomever may want to use it ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I’ve owned this a few weeks now and found the melodic part of the collection to be a BIG disappointment. The AEON hits are good, but pretty similar to each other. The playable instruments, in my opinion, are boring and extremely weak compared to products such as Omnisphere and several of the Native Instruments products (Reaktor, Absynth, Massive). I almost feel cheated as the price is pretty high. As for the rhythmic part of the collection, that’s good, but also overpriced. I also own the other Heavyocity products, all of which are great. I prefer the rhythmic loops in Evolve and Mutations over these. What I do like about the collection are the advanced performance features and FX. They get A+ on those. I had hoped this would be another great product, but not so much. The company might be getting a bit redundant now. They seem to be moving forward on getting the most out of Kontakt for sound design, but I think they might be better at using synths than programming them. I love their demos, but I think those composers could make a hammer, a piece of string and a kazoo sound like the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Celldweller playing arrangements by Hans Zimmer and Trent Reznor.

  5. I hear ya man, guess it depends on what you need. I like weird stuff like this personally. But you made me laugh with the last sentence lol.

But that’s also why I do these videos so people know what is in there.

    Thanks for your feedback!

  6. I see there’s a deal on at NI – which one do you feel is the most useful product for an intro to Heavyocity? Maybe good to make some atmospheric film music?
