Chill 2 downtempo chillout samples from big fish audio

28

it’s Friday, time for some big fish!

Today we checking out a downtempo collection they sent over called Chill 2.

I know I haven’t reviewed ย part 1 but it’s all good lol.

let’s check it out.

You ready to chill?

If you’re like me, you like to make and listen to music that’s a little more laid back, not so in your face, but the kind that floats a bit.

Chill can help ya get there, it’s a nice collection of jazzy, low tempo, breakbeat and acoustic sounds mashed up for your sampling pleasure

Is it cold in here, or is it just the chillin’ tracks?

This second installment of the ‘Chill’ line applies a cold compress on the frenetic headache of modern life. Sub-zero tempos, slippery breakbeats, and a vibe that lets you relax into hypothermia.

Chill 2 is sometimes jazzy and fluid, and sometimes tense like the rumble of distant thunder.

It features 30 cold cuts of construction kits, and over 4 GB of material we’re keeping on ice, just for your newest productions! Grab a cold one: Chill 2.

Quick Specs

  • Content: 30 construction kits over 4gb of samples in multiple formats
  • Format: apple, rex, wav, rmx, acid
  • Price: $99

That’s cool, but what does it sound like?

It sound chilled yo! Like most other collections from Big Fish this one is well produced.

The synths aren’t as “in your face” as you’d find in an electronic or hip hop collection, and that’s good. They are more airy, more silky, more smooth.

The drums are a mix of fat acoustic, breakbeat, and trashed out hits.

The guitars and keys are equally ambient and chilled, with some horns and flutes thrown in for spice.

There isn’t much of a string collection in here, but what you can find will work for those downtempo gems.

Well produced, and the loops are long enough for us sound technicians to mangle, mash, and reconstruct.

So what’s the final verdict?

I give Chill 2 a 4 out of 5 subs. I like the collection, I’m a huge fan of downtempo music.

That being said, it’s not on the same level as some of my favorite collections, which kept it from reaching the full 5 subs.

I would have liked to see some more keys, and more strings in this collection, and maybe a few more silky flute riffs to chop up, as well as a few more smoked out brass riffs.

All in all it’s a great collection and one that will find use in any downtempo producers kit.
