Big Fish Friday: Entourage Modern RnB, Trap, and Hip Hop Library Review

15

So what is Entourage?

entourageThis is a new sample library in the KLI 3.0 format that is dedicated to modern urban music production.

It is a mixture of RnB, Trap, and Hip Hop styles with drums, melodies, vocals, fx, bass, and of course the ever present 808.  The KLI interface requires the full version of Kontakt 5, and it lets you tweak each individual sound with fx, panning, key/pitch, and level, or you can dig deeper into the sliced loop kits and tweak each individual slice of a sample if you wish.

This is definitely aimed at those producing or into the more modern and commercial sound of RnB and Hip Hop music.

If you don’t want the KLI format…you can also get it in traditional sample formats.

Quick Specs

So how does it sound?

Reel to Reel Tape RecorderThey definitely capture the modern vibe that’s popular now, smooth melodic instruments and synths with deep 808 bass and bangin drums.

I like the fact that they give you the individual drum kits as separate patches, as well as each drum loop type, along with the individual instrument loops. I’m all for flexibility and the way they broke this down definitely provides that.

I did find the drum patches to be a little bit “all over” in terms of loops, hits, and both in different patches. I think it could have been organized just a bit more or in a more uniform way to make it easier to find what you want. Of course that’s just my hyper organizational preferences kicking in, it doesn’t impact the way they sound!

I was really pleased with the melodic parts and even some of the vocal fx sounded great, the sound quality is on point and there is plenty of variety to keep you busy.

So what’s the bottom line?

Overall I dig it, I think they delivered on the sound they were going for and with a lot of style and variety to make it a super useful tool for many projects.

4andhalfsubsI give Entourage 4.5 out of 5 subs, it captures the modern production vibe while the KLI interface gives you plenty of room to tweak each part how you wish.

I’m not sure there is much I would change, outside of the drum organization and maybe throwing in a few playing patches built from some of the instruments and effects, they pretty much came through with a solid product that’s sure to inspire plenty of tracks.
