Big Fish Friday…on a Saturday?
I know it’s late! But it’s still Friday where I’m at while writing this! How long the video will take to upload is a different story!
I had some crazy stuff going on today (Friday)…but I couldn’t leave ya hangin!
Technical difficulties…but I still got it done…the video took forever to export/render for some reason. The review and video was done on Friday, but everything with the video export and upload didn’t finish until after 12 midnight lol. I still had to post it!
Anyway…today we aren’t looking at a sample library, per se…. it’s a sample based workstation instrument that big fish sent me!
What is VI One?
Well just think of your fantom, motif, triton, kurzweil, etc.. and all around work horse of an instrument with sounds covering every different instrument type from pianos and orchestra to drums and synths.
This collection comes in the popular kontakt player format…so you don’t need the full version of Kontakt to play it.
The Kontakt player can be loaded as a plugin in your favorite host. Of course if you have the full version of Kontakt then this library will show up.

Everything! lol..like I said this is basically your all in one rack module.
If you’re just getting into virtual instruments this is a great place to start because you get tons of sounds. If you have a lot of specialty instruments but need a general bread and butter workhorse this is your instrument as well.

How does it sound?
Vir2 is a division of Big Fish Audio, so you know the quality is where it needs to be. I am really a fan of the Vir2 instruments, they are easy to use and a very high quality.
Multiple velocity layers and nice fx are a good touch. The recordings are done right so everything sounds tight with no weird artifacts.
How about the value?
I think it’s a great value… this instrument drops in at 199, pretty normal for a virtual instrument. Folks like me that come from the school of $1000+ instruments welcome a plugin like this with arms wide open.
The amount of sounds you get for the price is incredible..and it’s not like a collection of loops and riffs…these are sounds that will remain useful forever, synths, pianos, bass, horns, strings…that stuff doesn’t get old, or you can’t “overuse” it.
What’s the bottom line?
I don’t really give a sub rating on virtual instruments…I just tell weather or not I like it.
If I put it on the site and take the time to give you information on it, then you can pretty much bet that I highly suggest the plugin.
This is a must have, 5 star plugin… if I had to rate it with subs it would definitely be a 5 out of 5 and would be on my “must have” plugin list.
If you need a good collection of quality instruments that can last you a long time, and give you a great alternative to all those thousand dollar rack modules you keep buying…look no further.
Vir2 Instruments’ VI One is that workstation… cuz I said so!
Every once in a while you can catch it on sale at places like musiciansfriend for 99 bucks… either what it goes, it’s a great workstation to have.

whats up the sounds all clean love it also wit that program can you link that up to a mv-8800 or motif etc. just asking in case if i wanna up grade or is it just easy to find the different sound packs dont know. but anyway im loveing it i give it a 7 star good work ya boy TWAIN.
well, it’s a vst so you can control it via midi or whatever. If you want more sounds, they won’t be specifically for vi one, but you can get other libraries in kontakt player format and they will all show up in the same player, just have different graphics for each library.
It’s really good all around joint, but you can def link it with hardware if you want, just need a midi interface for your computer
I have to say this was an unexpected surprise. You were just commenting on this plug-in earlier in the week. From your overview I can see how it can be a “goto” vst for a starting point. I’ll definitely keep my eye out for it next time it’s on the shelves. How flexible has the sound editing been in vi.one for you in the full version of Kontakt?
It’s amazing lol. Honestly man…I don’t do much editing, I just roll with the sounds as is and maybe tweak some of the knobs on the front of the instruments. But you can go as deep as you want lol.
Pretty hot! Man, there’s so many sounds out there I can’t even get to half the joints I got now! But this set is dope!

No doubt! if a person is looking for a one stop shop for all types of instruments, this is definitely a dope option.

No doubt fam. I have syntAX as well, it’s ill. I will try to make a video for it in the near future…it’s a very dope plugin though, I really like the scatterFX or whatever it’s called…it’s some good stuff.

Hahahahaha lol…just sayin, that may be yo thang man lol hahahaha.
I like the sound quality and everything is quite nice except for the fact that some of the sounds do not cover the natural range of the instrument. i.e. the sax only covers just about 3 notes over a 2 octave range. This makes it hard to play some solos properly.
I hear ya, wouldn’t that be actually closer to the full range of a saxaphone? Which doesn’t cover the whole range like a keyboard or other instruments? I don’t know, I don’t play a real sax, but it sounded right to me and was good for playing solos.
I’m sure the reason they did it was to make it more “real” but I could be wrong. It just seems they pay close attention to detail so if they did that it was for a reason.
However, I’m not a sax player so lol…I just know I like it 🙂
Man you keep doing your thing I need this kind of infor. . I see that you are running Kontakt 4. With the vir2 Instruments VI One. Can I run Kontakt 3 with vir2 instrument VI One ? I have a Mac G5 Dual 2.7 GHz ? OS X 10.4.11

yeah, it will work with kontakt 3, it actually comes with kontakt player 2…so you’ll be fine.
