Vintage RnB samples from Big Fish Audio

36

It’s Friday time for another round of Big Fish goodies

This week I’m checkin out the old school flavors of Vintage RnB

Let’s check it out!

So what is Vintage R&B?

It’s a library that captures the sounds of that old school Motown and Stax Records.

It brings that live, raw, authentic sound from the 60’s and 70’s right into your sampler.

No need to dig in the crates and pay huge royalties.

You can just throw some of these loops together, slice, dice, and create.

Live drums, horns, guitar, keys, bass, etc…

all recorded in that old school style.

Quick Specs

  • content: 1.9gb wav, 1.9gb apple, 1gb rex, 2.15gb multi track drum files
  • format: apple loops, rex, wav, rmx
  • price: $99.95

How does it sound?

This is another superbly recorded and performed collection from Big Fish

It’s funky, it’s live, and it’s got that “groove” you would expect from a collection of vintage records.

Everything is recorded tight and “in the pocket” ready to add instant feel to your music.

The drums are nice, and fun to chop up, of course there are some funky brass riffs in here that many will love.

Good quality, good production, and true to it’s intentions.

What’s the bottom line?

I like this collection, I’d use the loops together to make custom samples that I could then chop up.

I was expecting a lot more vintage keyboard sounds. ย There aren’t very many rhodes, wurly, or clavi sounds.

Plenty of organ and piano, but I expected more keyboards…and some more strings.

All in all, it sounds like you’d expect, and is definitely a good library.

I give it 4 out of 5 subs, good solid collection that fills a specific need.

I’m definitely looking to more in this style from Big Fish, as they were able to capture the feel dead on.

The inclusion of multi track drums adds to the value and allows you total control over the drum tracks without losing the groove.

  1. Hhhhhhhhhhhhholy crap those are some hot sounds. Oh my god. @_@;; I used to do some crate digging back in the day so the variance I’m hearing there is awesome. It’s not just a bunch of similar sounding loops. The loops I heard the earliest on impressed me the most but I know those were from CKs. It’s nice, I will have to get this. I hear you on the Wurlis and Strings but it seems like everyone and their mama has strings only and wurli only kits now. Especially nova and P5. I’ve got the Jazz Quartet pack from Big Fish Audio and it is indeed nice so I want to hear more from this.

    • @Coruscate aka The Incomplete Orchestra, My brooooooooooo lol, yes, like that Jazz library, they captured the exact feel, I plan on creating custom samples instead of using individual loops, so it will be just like sampling from records.

And with the vintage sp1200 mode in Maschine, as well as izotope vinyl plugin lol…yessssssss ๐Ÿ™‚

I feel you, I just wish there was some more motown rhodes or strings in here! lol.

  2. Hahahahaha….man why you show this to me bro!!!!
I gotta buy it now…you know I love those sounds. Sounds straight outta Motown, Stax & Curtom…those bangin’ groups & solo artist that had the authentic fatness.

Reminds me of the commercial where the dude says…”Hey man can I borrow that record and he replies “No my brother you gotta get your own”

Gotta get this in the next few minutes if its for download if not then it’ll be through snail mail.

Damn Joe, keep them sounds coming bro.

    • @madbull1971, it’s snail mail man lol, but yeah, I knew you’d dig this, it’s right up your alley, I didn’t even show yall the multi track drums man lol. It’s like getting the old 2 inch tape of some drummers from this era, where you can mix and match each individual drum!

Good sample creation material man lol.

  6. WOW! Maybe like Coruscate this is just my own tastes, but those are impressive samples. I got the Motion Soultown sets and Reason Soul School, both are dope but are more Motown/Stax oriented, this set has those Blaxploitation/Deep Funk/Library 70’s sounds missing in those other sets.

If anybody does the Big Fish Survey you should manually fill in Sounds&Gear in the ‘where did you hear about product’ field.
(I have no connection to SaintJoe, I just think we should let the companies know the effectiveness of his site)

    • @Metatron72, definitely got “that feel” man. I can’t wait for their Detroit Soul product to drop, I heard the previews at winter namm lol, they have some previews on the site I think, but it’s a similar feel. They really captured it, even the drums I think.

Thanks for the love man! Maybe they’ll add this site as a default choice if enough say they heard of it from here lol.

  7. I finally just received my disc from Big Fish Audio. They should make all of there products download-able for impatient people cuz I hate waiting. I started checking out the sounds on the disc and they are dope. They actually captured the feel of 60’s & 70’s soul music. I haven’t had a chance to listen to all of the kits yet but the ones I’ve heard definitely sound like some Temptations & Curtis Mayfield tracks. I like that I can hear how these tracks are put together in the demos that are included within each kit so I can dissect the sounds then try to play them myself for practice purposes.

Definitely worth the 100 bucks I paid for them.

  8. Yo bro, I finally got around to doing something with the drums from Vintage R&B. If you want to check it out its called “The Paper Chase (Blaxploitation Re-visited)”

I took it way back on that track. I only used the drums from this Sample DVD everything else is me playing.

This is straight Blaxploitation era music.

I love the drums so much props to you on turning me on to this Sample Disc I’ll be using these a lot.

  9. Thanks bro. I wanted to make the track sound as close to those old soul/funk soundtracks I grew up on. Those drums from Big Fish helped a great deal to give me that authentic drumming style after that the rest was easy ๐Ÿ˜‰
