UVI Soundsource Jazzistic review

10

What’s good folks!

It’s been a while! This is actually the FIRST review of the new year…of the new decade…let’s get it!!

Anyway, shortly before I left for NAMM earlier this month…I started playing around with another library from UVI Soundsource.

This one I had been sitting on for a while, for some reason I thought it was mainly a bunch of jazz drum loops

But I was wrong!

Let’s checkout Jazzistic

So what IS Jazzistic?

It is a totally dedicated jazz/smooth music workstation.

Meaning…it has drums, yes loops, but also individual drums. It has drum kits.

It has riffs and phrases, and fully multisampled instruments.

The sounds focus around the main elements of jazz, organ, ep, bass, guitar, drums….not horns, but it’s all good

It is a UVI soundcard so it requires either the free uvi workstation.

Quick Specs

  • content: 3.5gb
  • format: uvi soundcard
  • price: $149

So how does it sound?

you know…this is all that I care about. And as I’ve said in the past, I really dig the sounds coming out of uvi, they have a really “organic” sound to my ears.

Sure, this may not include the most indepth multisampled instruments around, but they sound good, and that’s all that matters.

The bass has a real acoustic sound too it with some thick bottom end, and the guitars, even the jazz chords, have a slight hint of amp/distortion.

The EP is smooth and mellow but there are also some harsh ones, same with the organs.

The drums sound great and some of the loops sound exactly like the type of breaks I would snatch from a jazz record to chop up!

Plenty of riffs and one shots as well as fully playable instruments, that sound great, almost “warm” in a sense..with enough slight distortion to keep them from being too perfect…which…is always a pleasant surprise in the digital world.

So what’s the bottom line?

Well if it’s here…you know I like it right? Yeah…I like it!

I like the sound, I like the character, and I like the size of it, the sounds load quite fast.

I was really impressed by the double bass sounds, acoustic bass isn’t an easy instrument to get sampled properly, but I like the tone here.

I also found some of the ep and organ sounds useful. And the drums can find themselves in various situations within my productions, even the breaks are prime target for chopping up.

Overall this is a very good library, with an organic feel and a nice price too!

They don’t try to be everything to everyone, but this jazz focused library is sure to find use in any smooth mood creation situation.

Maybe they can do an update and include some brass next time to round it out, maybe some brass and a flute or two?

Either way, great stuff and I give it 4 out of 5 subs.

Definitely checkout their demos: Jazzistic

  2. hi man, glad to see you back. Nice jazz sound, indeed. Checking the page they have another library (plugsound) which is multipurpose but listening to demos it seems it takes some of the sounds from this library also, so if you’re not into jazz you may get some cool sounds from here and also something else.

  3. Yeah man, I like that Acoustic Bass too. I just received my MOTU MachFive 2 & Ethno 2 last week and I’m really digging those apps. I was actually checking the demos out for Jazzistic two weeks ago and thought that that might be something to have sooner or later. I probably will be adding Jazzistic to my library especially since I can load it up in MachFive 2 and tweak it. Plus it doesn’t seem like the CPU load will be that much unlike Trilian when it comes to the Acoustic Bass (I can’t really compare the two but this A.Bass does sound nice and I’m sure I can put it to some use).

    Appreciate the review.

    • @Madbull Studios, yeah man, you will like the bass in this, I really, really like it. It has a tone that even trilian doesn’t have in my opinion, sounds weird I know but man, something about this bass is nice.

The bass and the drums in here are very dope to me.
