Native Instruments Maschine sequencing vst instruments in standalone mode

Sequencing vsts in Maschine…without loading it as a plugin in a DAW

I just found out a dope way to use Maschine to sequence vsts without having to load it as a plugin.

I don’t like maschine as a plugin, because it has to become slave to the host transport.

Using transport and tap tempo buttons is a huge part of my workflow. I stop and start a lot.

So I have it setup exactly like I would an mpc.  I use Reaper to act as a rack to hold my vsts, I setup a template so that each channel receives midi from one of 16 channels in Maschine.

I just “looped” a single midi cable from the Midi Out of Maschine to the Midi In of Maschine.

I have Maschine set to use my usb interface, and Reaper uses my internal soundcard. Both using ASIO drivers, latency isn’t an issue.

I have audio cables from both outputs going into my mixer.

I also have it set to record the output as audio for when I want to track out the songs.

All I do is set a sound in Maschine to send midi and I can pull up my vsts with ease.

It’s a very dope setup, I leave reaper on my laptop screen and Maschine is on my main screen, it’s almost like opening vsts in maschine.

This video just shows how I do it, I love it. Save two files, but that’s very quick and all my stuff is recalled.

Let me know what you think.

If you want the template for Maschine VST Rack here it is: Maschine VST Rack Template
