Studiolinked VST Vinyl Classics Motown Edition review

14

Yo what’s good fam!

Back with another review, this time it’s a new product from Studiolinked VST.

Let’s check it out!

So what is Vinyl Classics Motown Edition?

vinylclassicsIt’s a Kontakt library dedicated to soulful style samples with a vinyl sound to them ready to tweak.

These are all original samples made to sound vintage, with a custom interface for manipulation.

You can change the pitch, reverse, add fx, and even timestretch directly in the interface.

If you like working with classic samples this is definitely something to checkout.

Also if you want to be able to quickly add fx and change your samples the interface makes it very easy to do.

Quick Specs

How does it sound?

Reel to Reel Tape RecorderThis definitely has a classic soul sound to it.

The samples are well played and even include some vocal parts to give it an authentic sample feel.

I also love how quickly you can change the pitch of the kits or throw different effects on the whole kit at once to change things up.

There’s a lot of samples in there, 12 “chops” in each kit, and they all have a similar soul style vibe to them.

I think throwing the cabinet effect on there gives it an even more vintage sound as it rounds it out a bit and takes out some of the high end.

The best part is, you can choose to add effects or not, and if you want you can access the waves directly to chop them up yourself.

So what’s the bottom line?

If you dig sample based production, and you’re looking for some new inspiration without having to pay sample clearance, definitely check this out.

4andhalfsubsI give Vinyl Classics Motown Edition 4.5 out of 5 subs, it’s a great set of sounds with a very clean and usable interface.

I’d like to see them continue to develop the engine, make it easier to reverse, pan, or timestretch all the pads at once, and maybe even thrown in a waveform view for adjusting start and end points of the samples.

I’d also like to be able to change them all to oneshot and put them in a choke group quickly.

Overall, they did a great job and it’s a very fun library to work with, definitely easy to come up with new sample based ideas.

And if you want, you can even import your own samples directly into the keys to use them in the interface.

    • It would have a long way to go to do that, but can be a very powerful tool imo. A few more tweaks would make it even more powerful. Great lil library man.

  1. Im confused i have contact but i have never used it. I have a mashine and use that software. Would i just open kontact and that interface and still use maschine to control. Fyi i oi dont use kontact because most of the sounds when i use them in maschine cause terrible static and feedback so i dont bother with them. Im nervous about buying this and having that same problem. Still new to NI so my apologies. Any thoughts anyone?

    • Kontakt generally uses more resources so if you’re computer isn’t up to spec it may cause that. You may also need to increase your audio buffer. You would need to have Kontakt open (the full version) inside of Maschine to load this and play it.
