Sample Logic HAVOC cinematic percussive library review

8

Hey what’s good fam?

Back with another library from Sample Logic

This time they recorded everything from parts of cars to buckets, wood, metal, mallets, and other random items.

They turned it into a cinematic percussion and hit/impact type of library

Let’s just check it out!

)

So what is HAVOC?

havocImagine an old body shop that just shut down one day, all types of tools, parts, pieces of machinery, and random gadget laying around.

Then imagine someone goes in, starts setting up mics and cables and all the other goodies one needs for recording.

Now imagine someone says “have fun”….and the banging, clanging, dropping, hitting, scraping, and pounding begins.

All while the mics are capturing the sounds, well, that’s what HAVOC is, of course, the recordings were done methodically and purposely, but the craziness is still the same.

Not your average drum and percussion sounds, this library is made up of all types of industrial, household, and machine parts, morphed into musical tools of destruction.

Quick Specs

How does it sound?

Reel to Reel Tape RecorderYou would think such a library was full of loud hits, bangs, harsh metal clangs, and scrapes…and you’d be right.

But there are also melodic instruments, atmospheres, rhythmic loops, and transitions.

The recording quality is top notch, all the dirt, grime, rust, or lack thereof, was captured in great detail.

Yet, you know they don’t just give you the sounds “as is” there’s plenty of morphing, mangling, and down right wizardry done to the samples to turn them into creative tools for audio magic.

I always love how they give you the raw sounds you would expect, then twist them into something totally different than you would imagine.

Make no mistake though, there’s plenty of nastiness to be had in this library.

So what’s the bottom line?

Anytime Sample Logic puts out a library I’m ready to see what they will do with it.

This library was huge, with tons of impacts, hits and sound effects, but also filled with various atmospheres, loops, and melodic sounds.

4andhalfsubsI give HAVOC 4.5 out of 5 subs, it’s a huge library of new material ready to be used in the next cinematic blockbuster, trailer, or music production.

They aim for composers and sound designers, but I always find a musical element to their libraries that makes it useful for anyone that loves sound in general.

  1. This is DOPE. Loved how you put the loop together on that. You should do that more often with these type of libraries, it really puts it in perspective. I love Sample Logic so i know ill be adding this to the collection. Great review as always.

  2. VSTBuzz is selling this week Havoc for 79,99 Euros, a saving of 75% of the retail price. It’s a very good deal, but since I already have most of Heavyocity libraries, does Havoc is quite different or just more of the same kind of sound? Good review as always. Thanks.
