Jeremy Ellis finger drumming course from macPro Video review

Yo what’s good fam!

Today I’m reviewing another resource that I think anyone interesting in finger drumming should know about.

It’s the “Maschine Virtuosity” course by Jeremy Ellis that he did for macPro Video

There are times when I come across certain resources that I just feel the need to share with ya, so….let me tell you what I think!

So what is “Maschine Virtuosity?”

macPro_Maschine_VirtuosityThis is basically a “from the ground up” tutorial course on finger drumming from one of the ninja masters of the art…Mr. Jeremy “crouching fingers” Ellis.

Okay, maybe that’s not his nickname but he’s swift with the technique for sure!

The course starts off with the basics of how to hold your hands/arms, good posture, proper hand movements and so on.

It then moves into different exercises or “ways” that get tougher as you move up the ladder, this allows anyone to get started and move at their own pace.

He also deals with sound placement, using breaks to get sounds and samples, and even some Maschine file/library management tips.

After that he starts getting into some rolls, ghost notes, fills, diddles, syncopation and other things to enhance and improve the groove.

He even touches on various stretches you can do when taking breaks, and stresses the importance of taking such breaks.

So think of it as a master class in finger drumming

So what’s the bottom line?

Well, since I don’t need to tell you how this course “sounds” like most of my other reviews, I’ll just get right into what I think about it.

I think the way Jeremy approached this topic was really well done, as someone that’s not a finger drummer, I found the entire course easy to follow along with.

I like that he took finger drumming as really learning a new instrument, and mixed different techniques from piano, hand percussion, and traditional drumming.

I really liked how he dealt with posture and hand position, as with any instrument, which allows you to be comfortable and not injure yourself in the long run.

The way he starts off super basic and works up as you get the hang of it really allows the student to feel like they are learning and growing during the course.

5subsOverall I give Maschine Virtuosity 5 out of 5 subs, I think it’s well laid out, easy to follow, and most of all fun for anyone interested in finger drumming.

For him to be such an expert, he really constructed the course in a way that encourages you to “find your own way”, while giving his own tips and advice on why he does things his own way.

I also must say that the macPro Video deliver platform is really well done. I like that everything is laid out in an outline, and it tracks your progress as you go along. They also make it simple to take notes, leave comments, or ask questions.

I was really impressed with their mobile deliver system, I used it while on a flight to Cali, using the in flight wifi and I didn’t get any sort of lag, buffering, or drop outs the whole time I was watching….good stuff!

If you’re even remotely interested in the technique of finger drumming, I say get this course, no matter if you choose the single course or the monthly membership, you can’t go wrong in my opinion.

Make sure you take a look at the preview videos to get an idea of how it’s laid out and the flow of the tutorial https://www.macprovideo.com/tutorial/maschine-virtuosity

  2. I always wanted to try finger drumming but never worked up the nerve to try. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I like Jeremy but I’m a fan of AraabMuzik. Either way, I’m checking out the videos.

    • I definitely suggest checking this joint out, it’s not even about a style it’s just about the technique and concept itself, you can put your own spin on it for sure, but he definitely covers a lot of foundational stuff.
