REV reversed instrument library for Kontakt

10

Hey what’s good fam!

Here with a review of a new product from a new company!

The product is called “REV” and the company is Output

Let’s check it out!

So what is REV?

REVlibraryThe whole concept behind this library is “reversed”

Every sound and instrument in the library is played in reverse

Now you may wonder how something like that can be enough to create an entire library but trust me, they did it

It’s aimed at sound design as well as anyone that wants to add a new element to their musical compositions

Definitely feels like a film/media composer type of product, which you know I enjoy.

But it also can fit into any genre of contemporary music in my opinion

Quick Specs

  • content:  4 engines (nki files), 1000+ presets
  • format: Kontakt Player 5, Kontakt 5
  • price: $199
  • product page: http://output.com/products/

How does it sound?

Reel to Reel Tape RecorderI’ll admit, I didn’t know what to expect when I first heard about this….an entire library in reverse?

Then I heard it….and all was well in the world!

OK maybe that was a little dramatic but seriously, this library packs some pretty creative sounds.

They have everything from single reversed notes, to rhythmic loops and long evolving soundscapes.

It’s a bit of organic mixed with electronic with a whole lot of awesome binding it together.

I really dig the layout of the interface as it invites tweaking, creativity, and sound manipulation, making it super quick to come up with new sonic textures and experiments.

Some of the pulses were really good and overall you have many styles covered from smooth and airy, to metalic bell-tones, acoustic guitar strings and raw edgy synth lines.

It’s really way more diverse than I anticipated and I was definitely surprised with the quality and creativity.

So what’s the bottom line?

I come across a lot of sound design themed products, and many of them sound great but mostly rely on the high quality of their sounds to do the talking and no so much the innovation of the product as a whole.

This library is totally different from anything I’ve ever encountered thus far and just shows what a little creativity can bring to the table.

5subsI give REV 5 out of 5 subs, it’s a really unique, fresh, inspiring and creative product that will keep many producers, composers, and sound designers busy for a very long time.

Again I have to say when I first heard about it I thought to myself  “hmmm…sometimes people try TOO hard to be different, I’m sure this will be “ok” but nothing special” well I’m happy to say I was totally wrong and this library is indeed something special and most of all fun.

It’s so easy to come up with new creations and they even make it easy to save your own presets directly into the interface.

  1. I would give it 4.5/5 so far, but I have a feeling I am going to do a lot of great stuff with this, and make my money back pretty quickly. Top notch stuff here. Thanks for the review.

  2. late to the party saintjoe, but glad you gave this 5 out 5 subs, this library almost makes me angry in that it would take me days to get these sounds 15-20 years ago, kids have it so easy these days, $199, and they get all this?!! (i know, “get off my lawn!” and “I used to walk ten miles uphill in the snow both ways….”)… Amazing. Props to Output for hitting a home run on their first release. This is an amazing library.
