Maschine using sounds and instruments from Beat Thang Virtual

60

This is just a quick video I put together showing how to use sounds from beat thang virtual in Maschine.

Of course it will work for other programs too, but Maschine has some features that makes it pretty easy and quick to do.

A lot of folks that have BTV are always looking for ways to get the sounds out of it to use in their favorite daw, sequencer, mpc, whatever.

There’s a few ways to do it, I found this way to be very quick and easy.

Some other ways to do it are recording audio directly into a wave editor or daw from btv, and chopping the samples, manually. You can make a simple beat that has what you need in it, export as a wave, and chop it manually. You can use something like Sample Robot or another automatic sampling system to do it, and there’s even a way you can do it with a script using autohotkey.

For me, using Extreme Sample Converter was the quickest and most efficient way, since BTV is a vst plugin now, I can just use the VST converter tool in Extreme Sample Converter.

Here’s the video:

So let me know what ya think, as you can see this is a dope tool to have, and automated vst sampling is like waking up to fresh pancakes…just a good thing!

    • @madbull1971, I feel you fam, it’s amazing how they instrument with just one note sounds way better in maschine lol…

      I didn’t do all the drums, I had some specific one’s though…

I’ll probably get a few more instruments

I haven’t tried converting to Kontakt yet, may try that too.

  1. Yo man I just finally finished adding every drum kit from Beat Thang to Maschine. I setup each kit to correspond to the same kits listed in Beat Thang. I’ve been testing them out and they are tight. I don’t think I will be doing the same thing for all the instruments. I’ll have to scan through those and pick and choose what I want. I think I’m all set fo’ sure.

I really appreciate your videos man. Keep it up.

    • @Madbull Studios, yeah man…I went through and grabbed all the drums and made new kits just for each sound, because all of the drums aren’t in kits ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll go through and grab specific kits as well.

On the instruments, remember, even if it don’t sound good in BTV, it will most likely sound much better in Maschine just because of the way it handles samples and such. All you need is one note, especially for the sounds in BTV…

I do this with tons of other wavs and such, more videos coming soon ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I thought you would be showing some dragging and dropping between the 2 apps, but this Extreme Sample Converter is pretty dope. I never heard of it, and when I checked the price seemed reasonable.
I hope they improve the Beat Thang Virtual soon, it’s not good when everybody loves your sound content but doesn’t want to use the actual software.

    • @Metatron72, lol, it is what it is man lol. I think people are comfortable with what they have and btv doesn’t do enough to warrant a switch. I still mess with it standalone from time to time, but it needs quite a bit of updates to make it a contender in my opinion, you can’t even drag the start/end points of your samples, you have to “turn” a virtual knob…not a good look lol.

  3. Oooo..sweetness! BeatKangz needs to get on the grind, now c’mon now fellas! This is very-very interesting, I haven’t heard of ESC before this. Correct me if I’m wrong but say one would like sound/samples from say Kontakt/Mach 5 for use in Maschine, then ESC will facilitate that? If so…man o’ man people are gonna have tetrabytes of sounds on stock especially after applying fx’s just they way a person envisions how they would like things to sound. BTW what other programs are there comparable to ESC on the market?

    • @jamari, yes, or you can convert into kontakt format, sampletank, etc. You can sample any vst you want lol. Directwave in flstudio can sample vsts as well. SampleRobot is another one ๐Ÿ™‚

I like ESC, it’s nice and has a bunch of options, easy to use, and can put your samples into various formats!

  4. Joe, I don’t use this feature much but since I upgraded to Maschine 1.5 I can no longer use note repeat with my midi keyboard (Actually this the first time I needed to use that feature since I upgraded). I’m wondering if it’s just something on my side or have you experienced this issue as well?

    • @Madbull1971, I think some other folks said something about that previously, I’ve actually never tried it myself but I don’t think you are alone in that one. I thought it was fixed though, maybe I’m wrong lol.

  5. I searched all over Extreme Sample Converter website, not for mac, huh? Im trying to convert Beat Thang sounds for Reason/Record use(NN-XT .sxt, NN-19.smp, etc), any suggestions for software to use?

  6. Thanks man..one more question, can I just take the sample folder from the BTV app, then load the folder with all the .btsp extentions on a pc then use the app you demonstrate?

  7. Hey JO much love from the UK.

Is the quality from the compressed BK format noticable? I would like to utilise the sounds in Mashine also! if not via Live drum racks. Also know anywhere i can get some nice percussion loops? Lol

    Reply
    • @KT1, the quality of the drums and riffs are fine. Percussion loops, look over at Big Fish they have something called essential percussion or essential studio percussion, I can’t remember exactly, but it has all the perc you need lol.

  8. Oh i think i wasn’t very clear. I meant that i like the quality of the Beat thangs sounds but are they improved when imported as a WAV post conversion? Will check out those packs for tha Perc! Also you may want to hear the sample pack i have been working on for about three years lol! I play the drums and do all the mic set up etc..Buddy is the the sound engineer – we were going to distribute it but were told it went against his contract with east west sigh! still they are ours to share! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • @KT1, oh cool, yeah the quality didn’t change much from internal to wav, with the coming update you’ll be able to use it as a plugin inside Maschine so may not be worth the trouble, unless you just want the raw files in the Maschine library.

That sounds cool on the sample pack man!! Would love to hear it ๐Ÿ™‚

      • @saintjoe, No doubt! i’ll send something over when i get home but it would only be for your personal library i’m afraid as i am not allowed to distribute so no reviews lol! but feedback would be cool. I’ll put in some fresh breaks i played both dry and wet and see if i can provide the BPM to help ya out! Or would you prefer the one shot stuff we are working with. We mostly recorded breaks and then resampled the strikes through the avalon comp and SSL matrix.

        Reply
        • @KT1, cool man ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m a one shot guy but you can include some breaks if you wish lol. Sounds like fun, and I’m in the process of restructuring a lot of my sounds so good timing, see if they make it into the rotation.

          Reply
          • @saintjoe, They definately will! I have had some very good feedback from the select few that have heard them! funny thing is a lot of people wanted the breaks so they could chop and get that classic chop/sample type sound. A lot would take it and convert from the 24 bit sample down to an 8 or 16 bit using a bit converter to get that grit. The breaks were all recorded on Tape using the best mikes and ran through the SSL Matrix. One shots – i have made some layers from the random bits of fun we have used from 808’s to acoustic pearl snap snares! I have raw files and processed files (where the magic really lies!). Send me an e-mail and i’ll mail you over a sample set for your perusal!

                • @saintjoe, Check your mail! I have to get back to the studio for a late session after i finish my pasta lol. I have sent you a couple of our kicks from the finished sample set for your sub rating! it’s a preview of the pack we will be releasing early feb 2011. We plan on being the best urban drum sample library the world is ever seen! ๐Ÿ˜€ haha dream big right? A lot of the UK urban seen have used our product and it was there request for us to sell a premium pack that led to the work we have done.

Much love and please dont share! ๐Ÿ˜€

                • @saintjoe, I hope we please ๐Ÿ˜‰ Like i said – my colleague and i are happy to give you a preview pack to review but the kicks i have sent are just to give you a feel for the processing quality and sample quality.

                • @saintjoe, Yup the kicks i sent over where acoustic strikes then layered with acoustic transients and tails as opposed to the common digital transient/tail stacks – Not many people do that and we thought it would give them that thump that people look for. The joy in an acoustic transient is you can EQ those 60 hrt regions without bringing a SUB quality to the sample. Leaves room for Bass in the mix. I put a small pack together for you over the weekend with some more selection. Could you please put some of the kicks into a mix you’re working on and tell me how it sounds? It is important that these cut threw like a razor. I know you’re a drum guru so would be intrested to hear if we got the EQ right – Perhaps get a small midi pattern going and use a kick you love and then replace with one of mine! let me know how it makes you feel! Till then much love!

  9. guys, anyone here sampled all the banks from beat than virtual vsti???

i failed to, because all times i tried to sample the drums from beat thang all my samples were pitched DOWN ((((

Yo SaintJoe that a windows only program and I use a Mac you any other software that is as simple to use as the one used in this video. And not the 500 buck software sample robot that’s not even a truly Mac compatible.

    Thanks in advance for info

Thanks Man Samplit is a mac program, I downloaded the demo but it’s far to complicated for me. I think I’m going to get me a cheap 300 to 400 dollar PC for the programs that I find musically useful but are windows only programs. Again thanks for the help SaintJoe Sr. keep it up.

    God Bless You

  12. Yo Saint Joe, what’s good man. I know you use Maschine Studio a lot in your reviews nowadays and justfully so, def a dope groove machine and controller but I was curious as to if you wanted to do a Beat Thang review with the updated 1.3 firmware? To show any improvements in workflow and/or stability.
