Aight, so…we love fatloud around here, they are definitely one of the companies I respect, and enjoy.
A majority of their collections where either singular sound packs or construction kits…..and yall know how I do my construction kits.
I like stuff to be in it’s own folder based on sound…not construction kits.
Fatlout put out “After Hours” a free sample pack that crushed many other packs companies try to sell. And they did it the way I like it…
Sounds were in category folders instead of construction kits. So you had folders for synths, strings, keys, bass, etc.
I loved it…and I constantly pestered Paul over at Fatloud, let him know that people want packs like this…many producers miss a lot of dope sounds because they just don’t look at construction kits.
If you organize sounds in a way that doesn’t force the producers hand, you’ll sale more….I’m willing to bet that this new Black and Gold collection is breaking records for sales at Fatloud…it’s what the people want!
So what is Black & Gold?
Black and Gold is the first pack in the new XL series from Fatloud. The XL series is basically what I said above, instead of construction kits, sounds are organized by type into folders.
I really love this format, and I organize all my sounds this way.
Whenever I get new construction kit formatted sounds, I remove everything from the folders BEFORE I listen to it…and put them in folders based on sound.
I don’t want to be forced into making a track that sounds like the construction kit…so I mix it all up.
I know tons of producers and beat makers who think the same way, some won’t even mess with construction kits.
Being able to buy a collection of sounds, that are organized by sound type…is a dream come true for many beat makers.
Fatloud came out with all guns blazin on their first of hopefully many in the XL series.
Quick Specs
- Contents: 400+ loops, riffs and one shot samples
- Format: wav, acid, aiff, apple loops, rex 2, reason refill
- Price: 32.90 euro about $47
How does it sound?
Dope!
Honestly, each folder in this collection could stand on it’s own as a mini sample collection. The strings are nice, the keys, synths, everything has that Fatloud edge we’ve come to expect. All they do is urban music, and it shows.
The production and variety of the sounds in here is definitely inspiring and will keep you busy for days.
I feel like each loop is a new track waiting to happen, there’s not a bunch of repeats and it feels like everything was made to stand on it’s own…it just doesn’t feel like a construction kit.
Not unwanted clicks, pops, or hisses are present…keeping everything tight, clean, and ready to use.
The sound is very “now” if that makes any sense. You can definitely tell they love the music they produce, and they definitely have no intentions of allowing any “filler” to make it’s way into their collections.
So what’s the final verdict?
without a doubt, no question, you should already know why are you even asking me……
5 out of 5 subs. This collection is setting a new standard, and I really hope other companies take note.
Many beatmakers would get a lot more sounds from you if you put your stuff in category format instead of construction loops.
To many beatmakers and producers…construction kit = “premade beats”.
I hope to see MANY MANY more in the XL series from Fatloud….and honestly, I hope to see some of my other favorite companies take notes and put out products in this format in addition to their construction kit format.
Go on over to fatloud.com and checkout the demo…you’ll see Black and Gold front and center.
What do you think about fatloud and their new sample pack format?

You’re right about construction kits…I don’t like using the kits sound for sound either. If I use a sampling CD with construction kits I would mix & match the sounds. The sounds on that Black & Gold Sampling CD sound very usable though with a great deal of different sounds. Something I might consider buying down the road.
Nice overview man.

Thanks fam…that’s why I like this format. It’s something I do personally anyway when I get construction kits, so it’s nice to have it already done for ya! Then I can just grab and go!

construction kits dont = premade beats. it weak, lazy people that dont know how to do anything origanal that give other producers a bad name. i like using some kits cause theres good sounds in em but after i do my track it sounds nothing like the kit it came from! but i definately think this new shit from fatloud is dope! i think these guys have some of the best samples out!

I feel ya man…I use construction kits just like you, mix and match, I’m just saying I hear it all the time from beat makers…many think construction kits are “premade beats” because really…that’s what they are. That’s why I take mines out of the construction kits and organize by sounds…so I’m not influenced by the way they company put it together.
I use everything man lol…I’m not an elitist when it comes to sounds, I think everything is there to be used, from loops, to original stuff, whatever you can make something dope with.
I just know for a fact, if more companies formatted their kits like this, they’d add a whole new set of customers that don’t buy their construction kits.
fatloud is def ill!
thanks for the input fam!

Yo, S.J. thems some sick sounds Man! I like those crazy orchestral type clips you were reviewing. I never use the premade stuff that comes with alot of kits I always like to be able to experiment with individual sounds one by one while the drum is kicking in the background and you just cant do that with a all in one loop. The price on this kit is appealing and the sound is crisp from what I can tell on your vid. I’m gonna really consider this kit and it’s thanks to your review brother. Keep it up man…GOD Bless…….

no doubt fam, it’s definitely a nice kit. There are even some chords and hits in there to go with all the loops and riffs.
You also get one shot drum sounds in there.

You ain’t lying, everything you ran through sounded usable. Well except for those vocal samples. I’m not sure Fatloud ain’t clownin’ throwing those in there. You know how every sample CD for like 15+ years has those, and we NEVER use them (haha).
I feel ya on the construction kit thing, but I’m so lazy I limit myself to 2 sounds per kit/folder (hits not even loops). Of course I go through 100 folders to make a 16 hit kit (haha), so maybe I should do what you do. You’re right though, everything together in the folder doesn’t gel with most people’s chopping styles.
Hope you make a full production outta that beat, sounds real nice.

yeah fam.
having your keys together, your strings together, and your synths together…etc
it’s much more useful I think. That’s why I reorganize all my construction kits this way, even before I listen to any of the demo files…just so I’m not “influenced” to recreate what they did.
but it’s all good
fatloud did they thing on this one.

Yeeeeoooo! That’s one tasty burger!
The Black & Gold kit is hot and that beat you put has to be the best one you’ve put out yet, on the real. After further development you just need to post it.
BTW: how’s the new FatLoud freebie pak? I’ve downloaded but haven’t had time to give it a listen (my mobo died on me it seems).

I don’t really go looking for specific producer style kits, there’s sites around that sell nothing but “producer name” kits just search a bit on forums and stuff too. Ebay probably has some “battlecat” kits too…but I can’t vouch for the quality.

Joe you and your site were and always will be my deciding factor when it comes to sound libraries and I like many others are thankful you do what you do.
Keep up the great work and for real man you sick with making beats in 10 seconds what most cats can’t do in 1 hour.
