FatLoud After Hours sample pack review

Yes yes yall, it’s time for another review.

Back again with another sample pack from the folks over at fatloud.com, you know we like them around here.

They have quite a few that I haven’t had a chance to review for ya yet, but I wanted to do this one, you’ll soon see why.

afterhoursMakin beats After Hours…

Like everything from FatLoud, this pack is dedicated to urban, hip hop, r&b music styles..that’s all they do, and they do it well.

I really liked the way they organized the samples in this one, it’s different from their usual construciton kit format, more inline with how I like to do things.

Every type of sound is in it’s own folder for easy browsing.

Quick specs:

  • Content: 189 24 bit drum, instrument, hit, chords, and loops
  • Format: wav, acid, aiff, apple, rex, refill 4.0,
  • Price: FREE!!!

How is the sound quality and production?

soundFatLoud always brings it raw, they have a very clean, tightly produced sound to all of their sample packs, this one is no exception.

The synths pop, and the production styles are current, useful, and inspiring.  You don’t get bored with the sounds, and you can find something for pretty much any style of urban music you are making.

The drums knock, the strings are silky smooth, and the keys are raw.

No clicks, pops, hisses, or any of that crazy stuff you get with low budget companies…these are professional samples and you can hear it.

What’s the bottom line?

I love everything about this collection, when I got my hands on it I didn’t know what to expect but was definitely floored at the quality of it.

The fact that this is free is amazing, it’s better than many collections you have to pay for…dead serious.  I could have just posted this up with the rest of the free sites I did, but I wanted to review this one specifically, because it was a full sample pack of professional quality being given away for free.

This isn’t just a demo, it’s something you wouldn’t mind paying for.

4andhalfsubsI give this collection a 4.5 out of 5 subs. You may wonder why I didn’t give it a five….well, because I wanted more lol. I know it’s greedy, but this collection was really good and I just wish it contained a little bit more content…

I definitely like the organization of this collection and I hope the guys over at fatloud continue to create products in a similar style.

  3. This is a good pack, you can get it free when you join their newsletter or with any purchase at Producer Loops.

I used only that soundpack to make my remix of the 1988 classic “Rollin With Kid N’ Play.”

  4. Big up saintjoe, great review the sounds are slamming and fat. You keep it up bruh.
    Peace

    olujade

  5. effone says:

yo this one is off the hook i luv this one thanks for the heads up iam all over it luvin it mann

  6. Jamari says:

Yeeah-Buddy!! Nothing like “free” any time of the year! The sounds are definitely workable, not to mention the anticipation for their “Nano-Paks” when they post another newsletter. I have to say it’s a smart business plan by the guys @ FatLoud, it’s a similar tactic D-R Period & Ali Shaheed mentioned to me at a conference sometime back…sometimes if you want to get noticed you need to give free meals from time to time and develop a firm customer foundation.

Thanks for the look on this and those in the future, because we all know you just can’t have enough sounds *lmao*

    Peace & Blessings

    • saintjoe says:

yeah man, it’s a smart move for sure I use it lol, but they took it up a notch by offering something that could easily be sold in their store…since they sale sounds…and giving it for free

      dope

      I love this kit lol

  7. groove says:

What Up? Yea santjoe, I picked up this joint a few weeks ago, I must say, FATLOUD are pretty tight. check out their Orchestra library. Hott.

These cats are from guess where?????……. POLAND. And they got skillz.

  8. Stak says:

Sounds good. Does the stuff come like that. Or did you polish them some. What all exactly does that Maschine do?

    • saintjoe says:

the After Hours sounds came just like that, I didn’t do anything. Maschine does a lot, sample, sequence, chop, play instrument sounds… it’s a production workstation

  9. NYJ says:

THAKZ THIS SHIT IS DOPE,THEY SOUND IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL

  10. tony says:

yo man i did,nt even finish looking at the review and i,m sold on this collection allready man thay just want the doctor ordered big up to saint joe for that one that beat you was puttin together was dope i,m going in

  11. Relic says:

wth do I always get codec error messages on the dope kits????

I found a way around the problem but it involves carpal tunnel.
Have to load each sound/loop into audacity and then export each one as a .WAV
Sux, but has worked so far wityh that samplitude problem.

    • saintjoe says:

Really? What are you using to play them? Maybe it’s because they are 24bit wave files?

All of my software can handle 24bit files, I bet that’s the issue, what are you loading them up in?

And yes these are dope lol.

  12. Relic says:

    AHHHHhhhhhh.
That MAY be it! Are these in 24bit?
I preview them in wmp and that is where the first sign of trouble starts with the codec error, then once in the mpc it gives me no sound.
I havent put this in the mp yet I figure it needs to be converted..
    :-(
Dont know if that was the problem with the samplitude stuff.

    • saintjoe says:

that’s it man! wmp can’t play 24bit files natively, I always have to use quicktime if I want to preview them. The mpc can’t read 24 bit either…my 4k can, not sure about the 5k… but most read only 16bit.

I guarantee that’s your problem, 24bit wave files.

  13. Relic says:

    LOL, of course…….
I spend the cheese on the 2500 when it came out cuz it was the “future” and of course it out dated. I’ll just have to do it the carpal tunnel way.

  14. Relic says:

Unless you know of a batch converter that will do them all at once?

  15. Relic says:

YO u know I copped that, and I think I may need to spend som emore time with it as it wasnt really doing what I wanted it to do, I think it batch did it then named everything the same thing so it defeated the purpose in a way as I then have to go back and name all the contents of a file again. lol
I was sorta frustrated so maybe I missed something there.

    • saintjoe says:

yeah…that would be kinda wack lol. I’ve never tried to do multiple files, I’ll have to check it out.

I know wavelab can do it, I’m sure there are others.

just look for a wave converter.

  16. Oscar says:

thanks for this one man! it’s SWEEET!

  17. Mehdo says:

Those sounds or fat I have not made any beats because I have yet to find a nice midi controller. hey is that a regular mixer you have or is that yamaha usb and with that Maschine are 3 gigs enough to run that.

  18. KNICE says:

SAINTJOE, feelin this pack. NICE LITTLE FREEBIE FOR THE HOLIDAYS. STAY UP PEACE!

  19. Metatron72 says:

Sounds like some usable stuff. Definitely gonna check out Fatloud. @Groove – Poland got it going on I guess, PSP and D16 got some great VST’s too. Hey Saintjoe,
what do have your MAH-SHEENA(I’m respecting NI’s pronunciation wishes lol) set up on? Is that a snare stand?

  20. Groove says:

    Peace:
I just have to say this. I have heard of interviews with “BIG NAMED” producers talkin about cats that use sample libraris or use midi keyboards to sequence beats.

This is my rebuttle: SO WHAT???? If I make a beat with a fat free sample pack from FATLOUD and sell 2000 copies, I could probably make more money than the big headed “now broke” producer who sampled somebodies record and got “NO” royalties… Think about that.

Everybody gotta do what they do in this game, my #1 rule is simple, Respect all playa’s. Cause look at Kanye right now…You only as dope as ya last hit. one bad choice/mistake and the ref can take you out the game……

Bang ya beatz, freak ya swag…don’t get benched before you get to play.

    • saintjoe says:

I feel ya, it don’t really matter man, most of them use midi keyboards and samples, be it samples off of a motif or fantom, or samples of musicians they hired, it don’t really matter

have fun, make music, and do ya thang!

  21. mehdo says:

I’m working on two beats right now. and when I’m done I will send it to you. I’m in St. Louis no snow yet but cold as hell.

Also which should I buy beatthang virtual or Maschine or both

    • saintjoe says:

No doubt man! I know it’s cold over there!

As far as which to get, it depends on what you want to do, Maschine is more hands on, beat thang has some great drums and riffs

I can’t say I’d choose beat thang over maschine, because I can do so much more in maschine as it is now.

but beat thang is only 149!!! and they are constantly updating… I like having both, as they are different…

which should you get first? Depends on how much you want to spend right now

  22. Syrus Vynod says:

Damn man that shitz sweatin hot!! heh Joe!! Holla man Nice ice ice stuff!!

  23. flyback says:

clever smarter man. how can i thank you man. god bless you…

  24. Taroy says:

  25. ceebis da original says:
