FabFilter Pro-Q EQ plugin review

21

Hey what’s good fam! Got another effect plugin I wanted to show you.

I don’t do many, as I’m very picky with what I like in my FX plugins in terms of interface, sound, and usability.

This is one I really wanted to share as I dig it!

It’s from Fabfilter and it’s their EQ plugin called Pro-Q

Let’s check it out

What is Pro-Q?

It’s a professional EQ plugin with a very smooth and simple interface, like the rest of Fabfilter’s plugins.

It also has a built in spectrum analyzer which really enhances it’s usability.

On top of that you get Left/Right or Mid/Side processing options, and it comes in 32 or 64 bit formats.

This thing allows you to enter up to 24 separate EQ points….man that’s insane!

Quick Specs

  • format: VST 2/3, AU, Protools
  • price: $199

How does it sound?

Well, it’s an EQ so I guess it doesn’t have a “sound” on it’s own, but I will say it sounds transparent.

Meaning it doesn’t really color the sound of your audio as you process through it.

It definitely has a nice smooth sound, noย degradationย in whatever data you a processing through it.

I LOVE the fact that you can actually solo whatever band you’re working with so you can really pinpoint the frequency that is being effected.

Man…that right there is sooooooooooo nice!

I will say it helps my sound out tremendously due to the clean interface which allows me to dial in exactly what I want to enhance or cut

So what’s the bottom line?

I know there are thousands of EQ plugins out there, and if you’re like me, it’s sometimes hard to get excited about the different variations.

Me personally, I really like my effect plugins to be straight forward, easy to use, good sounding, and powerful.

Fabfilter’s Pro-Q fits all my desires in terms of what I am looking for in an effect plugin, I give it 5 out of 5 subs without a doubt!

Man the interface is so easy to navigate, easy to look at, and more importantly, easy to get the results I’m looking for.

The built in spectrum analyzer is super useful, and adding various eq points is super simple.

For me, this is the first eq plugin I reach for any and every time I’m about to equalize anything, it’s so versatile and easy to use, it allows me to get in and out quickly.

However, I can go really deep with it as well, and that’s what I love about it.

Checkout the demo, really….ย http://www.fabfilter.com/products/pro-q.php

  1. Indeed I have this already. I use this all the time because of the isolating frequencies and honestly i don’t know what i would do without it. Because of this 1 plugin I bought the entire fab filter collection and I love them all. Fun to operate and fun to look at. Even my clients comment on the interfaces. Great pick St.Joe!!!!

  3. Wow thanks for the review Saintjoe, I appreciate it. This is a really nice looking EQ, that much flexibility with 24 points is quite awesome and of course the point isolation, I’ve never seen that! That in itself can be used as an effect if recorded live! In any case looks like an awesome plugin. I was looking for an EQ at one point and maybe I’ll give it a shot some time.

    • Man I’m not a big effects guy, I don’t have very many. I like to keep things nice and to the point, especially with so many EQ and other basic effects out there. This one right here…man I love it, really a nice tool to have.
