      • Hello Saint Joe I watch your videos because they are informative and accurate they also feature the latest gear and hottest sounds please keep up the good work I appreciate your expertise regarding sounds and gear. I have purchased the Arturia Keylab , the native instruments Machine Studio and several Hip Hop sound kits because of you. Thanks to your research my music production always has an extra edge
Thank you for all that you do for us in the music community.

  1. You have a very relaxing way of presentation that informs the viewer what he/she wants to know about the product without making it complicated.

  2. I like the content and platform you created. I believe you put me on to Traumah drums years ago and I’ve been watching ever since. I might not watch everything, but I definitely have been put on to some dope sound libraries from your platforms. If you are ever in the DC area let me know!

  3. I watch and I’ve subscribed because when Maschine first came out, you were like the burning bush Moses had that guided me on how to approach that particular piece of gear. I’d no problem coming out of my pocket monthly because it was worth the cost and you didn’t bs me with filler, the content was substantial. So yo, thank you!

  4. All the videos I have watched are on point! The reviews are great . Have you covered this in other videos? Your ableton live templates . maybe you have different templates for different genres. Arrangement of whole songs ,so we could see you break it all out. Some of your inventions or controller innovations. Do You have hope for a new maschine type instrument with kontrol features added or other improvements . I would love to have like 48 detented knobs that native kontrol would map to all plugins similar to the functionality of the midi twister. Then have 4 rows of twelve pads with ribbon controllers for the space between or have all the pads be x/y pads , and then have another smaller set of pads to switch up effect templates on the below the other pads you could hit with your thumb while drumming . and a drop in crossfader ,I dont know , I done drew up all kind of stuff , I know you have. where can we listen to your music? Keep up the great work , hope to subscribe soon .

    • Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! I don’t really use a lot of templates or custom control stuff, I’m lazy that way, I like stuff pre-mapped, hence, why I dig Maschine, Push, and Komplete Kontrol LOL…there’s definitely stuff I’d like to see as well. I don’t post much music online, only a few things over the years on soundcloud.com/soundsandgear

  5. SJ,

I’ve been watching your videos for years. Started off with all the maschine stuff before SAG. I like your review style. I also appreciate your videos on maschine tutorials.com. You and Knock got me into maschine and for that….. Thanks man! Keep up the good work.

  6. Hey SaintJoe,
Just gotta say, I’ve been checking out Sounds and Gear about as long as I started messing with Maschine back in 2011. In addition to helping me get up and running with that, you’ve also gained my trust in how you review soundpacks and kontakt libraries- you have yet to steer me wrong! I’m only sad when I want to buy something and I haven’t seen you mess with it yet. But I understand you are one man, gotta sleep sometime! I also have checked out a bunch of your external courses (Lynda, CreativeLive, etc) and have found them really helpful. You have a great, easy-going style that is critical when plowing through the jungle of software and gear that’s out there. Anyway, I appreciate the hell out of you, man. Keep it up!

  8. Hey SJ,
I’ve based a lot of my purchases on your demos. You put me on to many things that I use today. I have to say if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be hip to a lot of these companies that cater to my style (Boom Bap and Soul). I can honestly say that watching what you do has made me a better producer. I like to see more videos explaining the different techniques use for producing like the use of compression , vocal recording techniques, etc.. You are definitely a product master but there are many younger cats out there that lack technique and many that are looking for new techniques to add to their arsenal. I’ve been around for a very long time in this game but I’m also interested in doing things different ways that could help my workflow. That includes recording, producing and even shooting video which I’m studying now. Hey man keep up the good work. I love what you’re doing and thanks for passing on your knowledge and love for the art.

    • Thanks for the support and the feedback man! I’m not much of an engineer and don’t do much vocal recording which is why I don’t delve into those topics much. My vocal recording these days stops at what I record for my videos/tutorials lol.

No one does revues like you Saintjoe. You use the equipment the same like most of us do. You mostly stay relevant with the equipment. You make yourself available and correspond with your subscribers. You pass on good knowledge to musicians , beat makers and producers along with giving your subscribers opportunities to win featured items as well. I can’t think of anything that you could do to improve your revues. Thank you for all that you do and may you have long continued success now and in the future. Peace & blessings.

  10. I like the channel because you expose me to new libraries. Not only do you go in depth but you also play the sounds and even make a beat to put it in context. One thing I think would be cool St. Joe is, product comparison. For instance: Spitfire, Cinesamples, and orchestral tools all have string quartet samples. It would be cool to compare each once side by side to see how they compare.

  11. Joe, You are & have been my #1 go-to sight because of your honesty, consistency and quickly yet thoroughly reviewing products. Money can add up in this business, so I am selective in what I buy. I go to you first, because for years you’ve always been there for us. I like that you’re very accessable too, responding to emails when I have a question. Bottom line, man…you’re for REAL!

  12. I enjoy your site because gives me a chance to see whatโ€™s new in gear, sounds and sample packs. You audition the products for us before we invest our hard earned dollars. I definitely appreciate the effort you put into the vids and they are informative. Many of my purchases whether it be new drums sounds vsts or gear are based solely on your reviews and advice. Not to mention the giveaways are the icing on the cake. Keep doing you and weโ€™ll keep supporting the channels man. Are you planning to do some tutorials on the mpc touch?

    • Yeah, I switch things out from time to time depending on what I’m working on or how I’m feeling. Was doing some new templates so I needed the graphical screen of the studio for it lol.

  13. To the Good Saint, I love your videos! I’m starting out, and need the basics. I’d love to watch your Up and Running with Mashine videos without paying Lynda $350 for the privilege though. Is here a way where you can benefit directly from this? Can I buy the video file from you? Thanks, Dan

    • Thanks for the support man! Lynda isn’t 350 though! It’s 19.99 a month, plus they give you a free trial ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t sell the videos directly because I do not own them, I was contracted to do them with Lynda, but I do benefit from everyone that watches through them, and it also helps me to get more contracts with them!

I watch you, and listen and hear what you speak about to gain knowledge and insight before purchasing new stuff.
I appreciate you keeping your polysalavic words clean and without unessasry cursing.
I like that you are consistent with camera angles and crystal clear sound. You’re reviews allowed me to grab up several clean samples to try before I unevitabaly buy the presented featured item.
    Keep on keepin’ on!!! BlessUp!

  16. I like the laid back way you present your videos. We seem to be attracted to similar sounds, so you help with choices when it comes to adding to my library. Most of all though, I love listening to the tunes you make at the end of the video — I am fascinated by the way you work and how you tend to weave bits and pieces together to make a cool tune. Even though I work in a different area of music (more chill and downtempo) and on a different platform (a now older Mac — so old it can’t run Kontakt 5 but is stuck at 4 and I write with Pro Tools 9), there is always something new I can take with me after watching.

  17. Your vids are informative, they show us what exactly the product is, how it works and how it sounds. You explain it in “human” terms and not a lot of “techno-babble” or “music-snob” terminology. You are the best reviewing person on the web when it comes to what many of us are looking for. As long as you are still researching, and reviewing, we will be out here catching up on the latest gizmo that can make our musical brains start spinning!

  18. Ok St J, I watch your videos because of your relaxed non contrived delivery, which is Honest, intelligent, informative and appealing to a wide variety of music/kit/software lovers! In a similar way to the delivery of Justin Myracks and knocks Squared, Street Appeal but Intelligent!
Nothing needs to change, but I know everything must evolve, my suggestion would be monthly guest interviews in your Studio just as a different flavour ?
    Keep on inspiring! Thanks..

  19. It started when I bought maschine and had a free trial to maschine tutorials or something like that. Now I follow for reviews on gear and sounds. Btw, I’m on the fence about komplete kontrol and advance. Before you said advance over kontrol but I see you rockin with the kontrol now. What made you go back?

    Reply
    • Dope fam! Well, I always said Kontrol was better if you used Maschine, better system. But Advance was a better standalone. However I’m a Maschine guy so Kontrol was better for me, plus they added hardware browsing to the Kontrol screen so that’s one of the issues I had. I still think the Akai is better for layering, and working with external gear. But I use Kontakt and NKS libraries more than other plugins so it still makes sense for me. I mainly use Maschine’s browser which I feel is the best out there currently.

  20. You’re chill and you enjoy the gear. You have a opinions but aren’t overly opinionated.
    You’re a bit old-school, analog-phile, like me.
The choice of libraries & plugins is stuff I might never know about without your review. Keep surprising us!
