Hey what’s going on fam!
Today I have a new analog synth based library for Kontakt to show you from dboxsamples
The product is called “dmoox” and it’s based on the Studio Electronics Midimoog
Let’s check it out!
So what is dmoox?
The whole idea is to capture the warmth, grit, and character of that classic analog synth and bring it to the digital realm
They took high quality samples of every note of the synthesizer, gave it a sexy custom scripted interface, threw in some fx, arp, lfo, unision, and other goodies, and put it all into a Kontakt library.
It’s an analog synth for those that can’t go out and purchase one, or don’t have the desire to do so and prefer the convenience of software libraries.
So it’s not a vst/va synth, there are no waveforms being generated for the oscillators, it’s all samples based to ensure the instrument has the desired character and sound.

So how does it sound?
I can say, though I’ve never used a Midimoog personally, my main goal was to see if this library captured the analog sound and feel. I do own and have played other analog synthesizers, so that’s what I based my comparison on, the common “feel” or “character” that many analog synthesizers have.
In that respect, this library definitely captures that sound, don’t believe me? Load up a basic wave and create a bass sound, the low end is NASTY!
You can go through the many provided presets and get everything from deep smooth bass, to nasty wide bass, crazy leads, fx, pads, all with the character, uniqueness, and sometimes quirkiness of an analog synthesizer.
At the end of the day, all that matters with this stuff is does it sound good, and this sounds very good.
Does it sound like a Midimoog? I don’t know, I really don’t care, all I wanted to know is does this library deliver anything close to an analog sound…..YES.
So what’s the bottom line?
If you want a taste of analog in your library, go get this asap.
Seriously, I give dmoox 4.5 out of 5 subs, the thing sounds amazing, the interface is great, and the price is insane.
Many times in the digital world if you want something that sounds anywhere close to analog you’re gonna be paying at least 100 bucks or more…but not here.
I’m not just saying it’s great because of the price, because I feel they could easily charge more for it, I’m saying it’s great because it sounds amazing and is very easy to work with, the price is just an added bonus.

That was really cool and cheap, so a Midimoog is a hardware emulation of a Minimoog? Is that how that works?
Yeah they rebuilt the Minimoog into a rackmount style unit with the same layout/design, they also added a few things for course

Huh, we’ll that Kontakt instrument looks good!
Yes indeed!
Hey bro –
I know this is a collection of samples and NOT a synth. But, could I create BIG, FAT, JUICY R&B basses with it from scratch? Sub basses and such?
Yes indeed, it’s not a “synth” but it’s raw samples from a synth so all the oscillators are based on the sounds of the synth they sampled. You can still treat and use it as a “synth” it just isn’t generating the waveforms internally it’s all sample based, definitely can do some thick basses with it.
SJ: This a cool library & the price is great. I agree with your rating of 4.5/5.0. I’m buying this one immediately. Thanks for peeping this one…
Cool fam, hope you enjoy it!
Hey Saintjoe, thanks for the review! – I’m going to grab this now
(By the way, is that a Focusrite Scarlett interface I see among your kit? I’m thinking of getting the 2i2 for studio and iPad)
No doubt fam, yeah that’s a focusrite joint in the video
Cool. I was just checking my new dmoox, fab sounds! – keep rockin’
