CME Xkey37 Portable MIDI Keyboard Review

6

Yo what’s good fam!

Back with another review for you, and if you’re into portable/mobile keyboard controllers you’ll want to check this out.

Today I’m reviewing the Xkey37 from CME

It’s super slim, lightweight, and has full-sized keys, let’s check it out.

So what is the Xkey37?

It’s a 37 key version of their super popular Xkey MIDI controller.

They came up with a design to create a ultra slim, compact keyboard with full sXkey37_profile1-1024x343ized keys, and keys support velocity sensitivity and polyphonic aftertouch!

Needless to say it was a hit, but no doubt they got asked by many users for more keys, so that’s what they did with this one.

Not only that, they added the new Xcable that gives you sustain/expression pedal input and traditional MIDI output.

This is definitely a more versatile version of the controller, but still has the same build quality and portability as the original.

Quick Specs

  • features: 37 velocity sensitive full sized keys with polyphonic aftertouch. Pitch, modulation, sustain, and octave buttons.
  • connectivity: Mini USB, MIDI Out, Sustain pedal, Expression pedal
  • price: $199.99

So what’s the bottom line?

This is a dope controller, it’s slim, portable, built well, and the keys are nice. Even though the keys are slim, they have great travel, making them feel great when playing.

It’s definitely portable, but not “mobile” in my idea of the word, it’s a bit too long to fit inside of my standard bag. Also a bit too long to fit on my lap when on a plane or in the airport.

So for me the 25 key would be more “mobile” but that doesn’t keep this keyboard from being portable in every way. They also have a dedicated carrying case you can use with it.

I also dig the addition of the Xport for MIDI out and sustain/expression pedal connectivity.

4andhalfsubsI give this Xkey 37 a rating of 4.5 out of 5 subs, I  love the build quality of the Xkey and it feels great to play. Anyone looking for a slim and portable controller with full sized keys should definitely check this out.

The apps and the way you can program it really make it a pro level controller as you can customize pretty much every aspect of it.

    • I don’t know what you’re referring to from the past but this new line seems to be doing great. I’ve always heard good things about their controllers over the years as well.
