Big Fish Audio Oxygen ambient cintematic library review

10

Hey what’s good fam! Been a minute since the last Big Fish Friday…holidays had me busy but let’s get back into it!

Today I’m checking out a new ambient library called Oxygen

It is also part of the KLI series so it has a custom Kontakt interface

Let’s check it out!

So what is Oxygen?

It’s a new collection of ambient, chillout, cinematic soundscapes, hits, riffs, and loops.

It comes in the KLI format so that you can quickly dig in and start playing with or manipulating the different sounds and kits.

The concept is more on the smooth and soft side with lush pads and nice melodic percussion or bell like tones.

It fits well into a cinematic setting just as much as it does into a chillout or electronic track.

Of course it can be used for anything you want, but it’s not the “raw” or “edgy” type of cinematic library.

Quick Specs

  • content: 8.4GB (3.6GB WAV)
  • format: WAV, REX, KLI (kontakt 4 or 5), Apple, Acid, RMX
  • price: $129.99 (On sale until Jan 3, 2013 for $103.96)

How does it sound?

Reel to Reel Tape RecorderThis library has a very chilled very smooth sound…of course I love that!

It’s got some silky soft pads, some nice ambient and atmospheric bells, and even some of the drums sound distant and airy.

If you like slow evolving textures or subtle hits and drones it’s definitely got something for you.

I LOVE the fact that in addition to all the loops and hits, they included some multi sampled instruments that you can play directly in Kontakt, this gives it a nice flexibility.

I also love that it’s organized by sound types and not so much by kits or loop sets.

So you get all the keys, all the pianos, all the synths, all the ethnic stuff, bells, etc…in their own patch.

So what’s the bottom line?

I think Oxygen was the perfect name for this library because it definitely invokes an airy and ambient mood.

4andhalfsubsI give it 4.5 out of 5 subs, everything from the sound quality, style and even the organization of the library itself is really on point and useful.

If I had one gripe it would be….include more multi sample instruments next time!

That said, I like the direction Big Fish is taking with the KLI libraries, it’s turning their sample kits into very flexible instruments while still maintaining the flexibility of having a straight up sample loop library as well.

I’m definitely looking forward to see what they have in store for the coming year, I expect the KLI series to really continue to grow and evolve into more complete libraries like this one.

Definitely check it out on their site and remember they are having an end of the year sale on their most popular titles from 2012: http://www.bigfishaudio.com/detail.html?1;16;1:::::::512294:::D512294::515499

  1. This is slick, this can sit nicely with anything from downtempo to R&B ballads. I’m going need some disciple after getting a refill bundle and twisted tool’s s-layer though.
