Hey what’s good fam!
Been a busy week for me but still not too busy for a big plate of fish!
Today I’m checking out a new reggae library from VIP Loops
Let’s dig in!
So what is Modern Roots Reggae?
This is a huge construction kit library dedicated to real live reggae music.
It comes in VIP Loops custom V.L.X. player for Kontakt, which allows you to do some cool things with the loops and sounds.
The library was played by musicians that have worked with Ziggy Marley, Maxi Priest, Barrington Levy, Wailing Souls, and more.
Needless to say, it’s got plenty of authentic vibe to go around!
Oh yeah, it was Directed by Michael Hyde, musical director for Ziggy Marley.
- content: 2.19GB, 29 Kontakt instruments, 1455 loops, samples, and riffs
- format: WAV, Kontakt
- price: $129.95

How does it sound?
Of course if you listen to the full mixes it sounds like authentic Reggae, but what I really liked about it is how live and organic the instruments are.
The basses are deep, the guitar are clean, the keys are silky smooth, and there’s even some drums and percussion ready to go.
I also heard a little bit of brass in some of the kits.
So even though it’s aimed at Reggae music, I find this to be a really great collection of live instrument riffs and loops that can fit into many different genres.
The parts were well recorded and there’s definitely some variety in there to keep you busy, even including some left and right parts based on how the band was setup and recorded.
So what’s the bottom line?
I don’t make Reggae music, so I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one, but I know the quality VIP puts out so I wanted to check it out.
This is definitely a well put together library and if you’re in need of some Reggae loops and riffs you should definitely look into it.
I give Modern Roots Reggae 4 out of 5 subs, the sounds are well done with a very natural tone, not a lot of effects but that’s what makes it sound so organic and live.
If you dig Reggae or just really well recorded live bass, guitars, keys, brass, and drums, you’ll definitely want to check this one out for the musicians alone!
I didn’t read the description until after I reviewed it, but I just thought it had an authentic sound…turns out the musicians that were recorded have been creating that sound for a while.
