Big Fish Audio – AcousticSamples Wurlie review

10

Yo what’s good fam, you know what it is!

Big Fish Friday!

Today I’m checking out a library from Acousticsamples, they make some dope stuff and did all the new dedicated instruments for Mach Five 3.

All of his products now use the new UVI Workstation format and Wurlie is the newest of the bunch.

Let’s check it out

So what is Wurlie?

I know what you’re thinking…”another wurli ep library?” but don’t!

First..I LOVE a good EP library, and second, this is based on the 206a “student model”, not the 200a like we see most of the time.

This one had it’s own built in amp/speaker.

But anyway, this library is dedicated to capturing the sound of that specific instrument in true Acousticsamples fashion.

It runs in the UVI player, and also works in Mach Five 3 or Motu BPM, and yes it stores it’s license on an ilok key, so you need to own an ilok to use this.

Quick Specs

How does it sound?

You guys know I’m more of a rhode type ep lover than a wurli, but I don’t hate the wurli, it’s just usually not my preference.

This wurli sound really dope! I LOVE the way he adds the acoustic sound of the keys to the electric sound of the keyboard, it really gives it a more realistic sound.

The recording of the instrument itself of course is top notch, I would expect nothing less.

I also like how all the controls are front and center and encourage quick tweaking/personalization of the sound.

The included impulse responses for the different cabinets really allow you to dial in the character you need and being able to adjust the bass, treble and basic fx right from the front panel is nice.

Overall I really dig the sound here, it definitely has a smooth, silky feel to it and the close cabinet really gives me some good tones, that’s my favorite.

So what’s the bottom line?

Well the bottom line is I’m a fan of Acousticsamples, he turned me into a fan with the stuff he did in Mach Five 3 (which you can now purchase individually for UVI Workstation), and I expected this to sound good.

However, I was a little reserved to play with yet another wurli library, however that quickly changed when I played this one.

I give Wurlie 4.5 out of 5 subs, I love the tone of it, the playability, and the acoustic samples mixed with the electric really give it a unique and real sound.

It’s very smooth sounding, it doesn’t have the “bite” that I usually associate with the wurli, it’s much more of a smooth sound to my ears and that’s the type of sound I like personally.

  1. Very nice sounding! I agree with you, the acoustic adds a very natural sounding key click and hammer sound. I’ll pass on the iLok though…
