Big Fish Audio 13: Horror Loops and Sound Design Library Review

10

Hey what’s good fam!

Back with another Big Fish Friday

Let’s dig in!

13lsdSo what is 13?

It’s a collection of loops and sound design elements geared towards horror, sci-fi, and thriller compositions.

If you doing any dark film scoring, video game music, or you just want a bit of a creepy edge to your music this is a library aimed at your desires.

This is a HUGE  collection of loops and sound design content that would work well for creepy melodic parts and high energy distorted mayhem.

You know me, sound is sound, so you can use it for whatever you want, just know this library has a horror styled edge to it.

Quick Specs

How does it sound?

soundI thought it would all be high energy distorted slasher film music, but they cover everything from ambient drones and atmospheres to melodic pianos and music boxes.

Of course they have plenty of distorted, dirty, glitchy drums and melodic parts too, but there’s definitely a huge variety of sound covered.

Some of my favorites were the pianos, the music boxes, and the fractured audio phrases.

They also have some creepy vocals in there as well as a folder dedicated to “exorcism session audio” if you really wanna get creepy.

Overall the sound quality is great and I felt there was a lot of layers in the content which provides plenty of texture and style.

Though it’s aimed at horror sounds, I find these sounds could be useful for anyone that likes dark, ominous, “someone standing in the dark with a rusty saw blade ready to feast” type sounds.

So what’s the bottom line?

This one is out of the box, it was requested for review from one of my viewers and I thought it looked cool so figured I would check it out.

I’m glad I did, as I think many producers and beatmakers would overlook this one leaving all the goodies to those into film, game, and media sound design.

I say this library is useful for anyone into these types of textures.

4andhalfsubsI give 13: Horror Loops and Sound Design 4.5 out of 5 subs, it’s a huge library with tons of content and plenty variety to keep even the pickiest person busy for a while.

Really cool content, not in construction kit format which gives you plenty of sounds, loops, and elements to work with in your own way.

        • Good job and thanks for the comment. I understand the sounds are meant to work together as are most of these libraries, so I understand how to use it, but also do not stick to just using everything together because to me it’s all about the sounds and finding ways to fit them into your own music, that’s why I show things the way I do. So people who want to use them all together know what they sound like, and those that are looking for bits and pieces of cool sounds can also know what it has to offer.

          • With out a doubt!,your so right.Ive been using samples since the late 80.most products have very little ability to create a feature track with in the product itself because ive found it to be based on more of a cut loop that sounds good rather than a compositional aspect.I like to send you an index sheet which show how the fracture track were constructed.do you have a personal email so im able to attach some files to?Thanks kindly for all the great things you said about 13.I really wanted to bring creepy HORROR sounds back into the forefront!,george

    • Cool man, congrats on that. I’m not under contract with anyone I review or show whatever I want. That said, I’m pretty swamped so not sure if I’ll demo something I’ve already showed but if you want to send it over you can. If I feel it deserves a new video then I may do one. Thanks.
