Big Fish Ambient Skyline 2 review

28

Yo what’s good fam! It’s friday and it’s time for some Big Fish!

I know it’s been a minute, but NAMM got me all out of order, but I’m back on track and I got some goodies for ya!

This one is some chillout ambient lovin, from Ambient Skyline 2

Let’s check it!

So what is Ambient Skyline 2?

It’s another collection of smooth, chilled out, ambient sounds, samples, and hits.

Drums, keys, pads, bass, vocals, woodwinds, fx, noises, ambiences, and anything else that can provoke that chillout feeling.

It comes in the KLI format so it has a Kontakt interface ready for you to tweak and play

Oh yeah…

since they are in Kontakt, they samples are ready for automatically mapping to your project tempo

Quick Specs

  • content: 6gb 24 bit wav (9.9 gb total in all formats)
  • format: wav, kontakt, rex, apple
  • price: $129.95

How does it sound?

Like a smooth drink during a spring sunset…..HA, you like that huh?

No seriously, it’s very much ambient and chilled, but very smooth and jazzy at the same time.

Lush pads and keys as well as some woodwind samples really allow you to put the calming texture in your music.

I also love the vocals and other one shot samples, horns, guitars, random NYC street noises, and more.

The recordings are done to pristine quality so no unwanted artifacts or defects in the audio

There is sooooooo much content here, I tried to provide a deep overview in my video but I still didn’t even scratch the surface, there’s just so much here!

Sometimes and ambient library can be a little “too sparse” to where it only makes sense for background tracks, not the case here, you can create full productions with just this library, the content is that diverse and that useful.

So what’s the bottom line?

If you’re like me, and you love ambient music, definitely give this a look.

It has all the right elements to allow you to use this for cinematic, urban, pop, or any other style of music you wish.

I really love some of the keys and ambiences, they really have that smooth “cloudy” feel to them.

I give Ambient Skyline 2 a rating of 4.5 out of 5 subs, it’s a really smooth library that willย surelyย please even the most critical ambient music makers.

The ONE thing I would really have loved to see, is actual playable drum kits. I know you have the slices but something that is just a really basic drum kit to match the styles here would help it out a lot. Even just one shot patches of kicks, snares, hats, percs, etc, would really take it to the next level.

Maybe in Ambient Skyline 3 ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Man, that’s some very intereting sounds. It’s been a minute since I’ve checked things out and I see you got yourself a new and different keyboard. Nice!

  2. Dope video as usual. The new video format as far as I’m concern is 50/50 with me. Both formats work good me. I think the new format however would be good for the beginners new to work flow techniques. With that being said I’m leaning with the new format for the new guys getting into production and beatmaking. In this case it’s about the greater good. Keep up the good work. You and Big Fish bringing the heat once again.

    • @Mean Gene, Thanks for the feedback as usual fam! I had quite a few asking over the past year, if I could show the keyboard when playing plugins and such. So figured I’d try it out. Plus I’m toying with the idea of trying to show the plugin itself in use too, like I do with samples/loops. So we’ll see. I know for someone like you, it don’t matter, it’s all about the sound….but I’ve had enough ask me about showing the keyboard, etc, so we’ll see. Of course if I keep it, it will be more for the beat I make at the end, and showing the workflow than just showing me playing keys. So if I don’t plan on making a beat at the end, I will probably not have the live video lol. But yeah I’m diggin this library sir, so thanks!

  3. Real nice. Like the horns. I was telling my wife a month ago that I have a feeling the jazzy vibe was about to come back around. By the way, I didn’t see a CPU spike at all on your screen. What do you have in you computer ram wise?

    • @Rushaa, word fam, I’ve always been more into the jazzy/smooth chilled side of things, as far as if it is coming back around, I think like anything, there is always someone doing that sound ๐Ÿ™‚ I love mixing ambient/cinematic stuff with some smooth hip hop/jazzy tracks. Thanks for checking it! As for my pc, I have 24gb of ram sir ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. The sound is nice on this, I can see some trip-hop work (i.e. Nujabes, FlyLo, etc.) coming out of this. Hmm, this might make a nice pairing with Rolodecks now that I think of it. Good look with the Micro, are those the James Dean side panels? I thought of them for Maschine but haven’t pulled the trigger yet, mostly due to price.

    • @Mehdo, sup fam…I would say NO, that’s a great price for an mv8800, keep it, and add maschine later if you wish. By no means would I get rid of it, especially when you got it for such a good deal. I’d just add maschine to the mix.

  6. SJ: BF Audio has delivered a beautiful “Thang” right here. The ambient sounds and “Tight” vst abilities appear well done. Thanks for bringing this review for your viewers.

    • @Joe, man…I love them both, I would say if you want the kontakt interface options go with part 2, as you still get all the wav files. Where in part one, they didn’t have the KLI Kontakt format yet. I like a bit of the pads and such in 2 a slight bit better, but both are awesome.
