A Free Music Box library from Soniccouture

22

Hey what’s up, hope your week is off to a great start!

Today I’m back with another library from one of my favorite developers….Soniccouture!

This one is a music box library, and as you may have heard me say before…I love music box instruments

Let’s check it out

So what is Music Boxes?

It’s a small library made up of 4 separate music box instruments.

It’s pretty straight forward and has some basic controls in the interface for quick tweaking.

There’s not much to explain about the library, it is what it says.

Quick Specs

  • content: 60MB library
  • format: kontakt, exs24, live
  • price: $0.00

How does it sound?

It sounds like a music box, really nice tone, nice and bright.

It’s made from two children’s music box instruments so they have a nice quirky sound but well recorded.

I love the layered sound of the two music boxes together and throwing in the stretched instrument really allows you to get some interesting sounds from it.

The stretched instrument is more of an atmospheric pad type sound, works well on it’s own or even layering it with the other instruments.

It has a niceย etherealย sound.

What’s the bottom line?

I like a good music box about as much as I like a good ep, so I’m always on the hunt!

This is a great music box library, I give it 4 out of 5 subs, it’s basic but it works well and sounds great.

I would love to see them go deeper into the music box territory, as their other full instruments are always awesome!

  3. Thanks, I have this but haven’t made time for it yet. I’m waiting for their usual holiday sale so I can get broken wurli or perhaps pan drums. Just an added note for those that are curious, tube drums (a freebie) is nice to muck around with as well.

  4. great sounding samples, the main problem is that they are truncated about as poorly as you can get. perhaps that was part of the intended charm, but working with it in a track is difficult, as there is a random and arbitrary amount of blank space before the sample starts on every sample in the keymaps….. so with other instruments, it is slop all over the place. I always salute sonic couture on their products, but i was just in a session and trying to use this library, and well, it really put me in a bind… sloppy programming or intention? i tend to think intention given their track record… but really sucked for me to try and use along with other instruments. but hey, for free, i have nothing to complain about.

    • Yeah I tend to think anything done with them is intentional, I hadn’t noticed anything in terms of sloppiness but I was so into the sound personally ๐Ÿ™‚

      thanks for the comment!

      • btw, saint joe, watch your stuff every week, big fan, and it helps me in my sound purchases, keep up the great work.

in terms of the samples, if you take a look at the wave editor for all the samples, there is a staggering amount of blank space at the tops of all the different samples…. and all different, not consistant… so if you try and get a pretty tight part, or layer it with other stuff, while sometimes it can be cool for the intended music box effect, i wish they had provided a better truncated version, but oh well, again, it was cool enough of them to offer this for free!
